InactiveToday on the way home from pre-school Ellie was asking to play with a toy that contains small parts. I explained that she could only have it when I was supervising her because Myles could choke on it. She continued to insist so I told her Myles could choke and DIE from it. Her response? “So, he’ll stop screaming?
(Myles is a screamer). After a few minutes of silence Liza chimed in with, “Hmmmm…..it will cost a lot of money to get another baby.”
Poor Myles.

I swear they really do love him.

InactiveFunny!!!
We are still potty training (at almost 4, I know), but pretty much there. I had Dylan in underware in the car and we were about 5 minutes from home when Dylan says “I need the potty”. I asked him if he could hold it and he said nothing. I looked back and he had both hands between his legs holding on tight. I didn’t know how to explain what I meant, but Dylan “held it” all the way home…..

InactiveHow Funny! Poor Myles.
Funny how Dylan “held it” too.
Here’s Isaac’s latest:
I was getting Isaac ready for school and putting a turtle-neck shirt on him. As usual with turtle-necks, it was a tight-squeeze over his head. He said, “This must be Parker’s shirt because the head is too small.”
I said, “It’s not Parker’s, it’s just a turtle-neck and that’s how turtle-necks are.”Isaac said, “No. It’s not a turtle-neck. It’s a Parker-neck.”

InactiveGreat stories!!!! I can’t wait until Sarah is able to talk and make us laugh…and embarrass me in public with the things she says!

Wait, I can kind of add a story, but it’s more sweet than funny. DH was feeding Sarah the other night and sat her up to burp her. I was sitting in the other chair and waved at her really big and was saying “HI!”. She lifted up her arm like she was waving back! She did it several times and the last time we both SWEAR that she said “HI” back.
It’s moments like that that make it all worthwhile! The BEST part is that I know there are a million more to come!amy00132006-12-15 21:52:50

InactiveAmy, Liza’s first word was “Hi” and she said it at 6 months of age!! I was stunned and thought I must have imagined it but she kept saying it, and she really was only six months old!
Heather, Isaac’s reasoning is so sound, isn’t it? He just knows his brother is not a turtle and turtles don’t wear shirts.
I always wonder how in the world our little ones learn the English language. It’s so complex.December 16, 2006 at 8:02 am #20564Anonymous
InactiveThey’re so funny! I swear they make me laugh all the time.
Yesterday Sarah was admiring a picture of her riding a horse that we took two summers ago. It’s on our fireplace and she was going on and on about how next summer we’ll go back to the zoo and she’ll ride “Happy” the horse again. Then she turned to Hailey and said- “But not you, Hailey. You’re too small to ride a horse. You might fall off.” Then she paused and seemed to be thinking and then decided to add “And you’d throw up on him and then he’d get so mad”.
I couldn’t help but smirk, but also think poor Hailey. When I told her that it wasn’t nice to say that and that Hailey throws up because “her tummy is sick”, she said “Okay, we could bring a towel and wipe the horse up after”.December 16, 2006 at 9:41 am #20574Anonymous

Poor Hailey! At least Sarah didn’t suggest getting a new baby sister who doesn’t throw up. I think Eliana would like to trade Myles in for a quieter model.

InactiveI love what kids say! It is so cute!
Alexis has been asking what everything is lately since she is finally speaking. So during her bath yesterday she pointed to her vagina and asked what is this? I told her it was her vagina, she told me NO Mommy, Lexus Front! Mommy vagina, lexus and tay front!! I didn’t understand why she called it her front, so I pointed to her butt and she said it was her butt I was expecting her to say back. I told DH the story and he said he was to blame since when he bathes her he says, it is time to wash your butt and your front (meaning her vagina)! So my daughter has a butt and a front, no Vagina, but Mommy and Daddy has a “Gina”

Liza used to call it her bajina! And she went through a stage right after Myles was born where she felt she needed to establish out in the open which organ each person in the room possessed. Talk about embarrassing!

InactiveChristine, Sarah also talks openly about her “gina” in public. In fact when I picked her up at at school a few days ago, one of the boys bumped into her and I heard her scream “Ow, Noah, you just hit me in my gina”. (To which his response was, “what?”)
Not to get tangential, but how old were your kids when you told them what the genatalia of the opposite sex was called? We’ve always referred to Sarah and Hailey as having vaginas (no pet words) during bath time or diaper change time etc. But we’ve never told them what a penis was called. A few weeks ago Sarah told me that girls pee sitting down and boys pee standing up “like this” (doing a demonstration of a boy holding a very small penis). I wanted to see what she knew, so I asked her “Why do boys pee standing up?” and her response was “I don’t know, that’s a good question mummy.” I didn’t elaborate, mainly because I never know what additional questions will come out of her mouth. (I know that she knows that only girls have vaginas because a few years ago, sometime when she was around 18 months or so, she saw my husband step out of the shower and proclamed that he had a “tail”!)

A tail, hugh?Well, to answer your question, until Myles was born both girls just referred to their whole diaper area as their “doopa.” I figured I’d tell them the correct terminology when they were older and starting asking. So one day they saw daddy getting out of the shower and Liza looking very concerned asked, “daddy, what happended to your doopa?” Taken off guard I just said, “Oh, daddy has a boy doopa and you and Ellie have a girl doopa.” They were fine with that until Myles was born.
So, the first time Liza saw Myles’ “boyhood” she was so intrigued and she asked “what is that?” and “how come I don’t have one?” That’s when I finally told her boys have penises and girls have vaginas. For weeks after her brother was born Liza was very disappointed that she didn’t have a penis, too. And I always thought Freud was a NUTCASE, but my little girl had a serious case of penis envy!!
She kept asking me, “well, where IS my bagina??? I can’t see it!” She finally was satisfied when I told her it’s inside her body where it’s safe and protected, and that’s why she can’t see it. Sheesh!!! I’m glad she’s finally accepted herself! She’s still intriqued by her little brother, though. A few weeks ago I was changing his diaper and she exclaimed, “Isn’t his penis adorable, mommy?”
