Hello everyone. We just came back from the dr (ped GI) and he, too, told us “Do not worry, she’s fine, she’s gaining weight”. I just lost it with this dr and told him that I’m so fed up with the drs who are not there with my baby 24/7 and do not see that my baby’s uncomfortable telling me that she’s fine. He looked at me as if he was dealing with a mad woman. I don’t care, I told him that we’ve been using Zantac for a week, and it’s not help AT ALL. I’ve stopped eating dairy, that doesn’t help. I’ve tried a lot of things and it’s already getting frustrating. You know what he does?? He wants me to try Axid (here we go again) and see if that helps. If not, he wants to go ahead and try Prevacid solutabs. I’m soooo tired of all this. Sometimes I feel that I know more than these drs. UGH!

i’m a little confused—-what was it you were hoping the doctor would do? you are not likely to see a whole lot of improvement with one week of meds. your doc sounds like he is willing to go to a PPI—he is just a little less aggressive than some in wanting to try axid first.

I forgot to state this is the the fourth!! GI doc we saw…He was very vague as to whether or not he’ll do Pepcid or Prevacid…Basically he told us to try Axid first and we’ll discuss further action once we see that it’s not working.

I’d be frustrated too.

I guess it’s possible that she will do well on Axid but I’d really want to try a PPI instead of another H2 Blocker. 4 doctors! My goodness, you must be worn out. It took me six weeks (maybe longer) to convince Myles’ doctor to put him on an adequate dose of Prevacid and I was wiped out from the stress.

I hope the Axid works or you can convince the gi to put her on Prevacid.

I am really sorry for you. That can be very frustrating…but hang in there. And maybe the Axid will work. You won’t know until you try (which is the most frustrating part of the reflux in my opinion….the waiting – ugh!). GOOD LUCK!

Marianna,

I have a little one too, and we are also trying to figure it all out. One thing you may want to consider AFTER you get her meds. where you want them to be, is to try a full elimination diet. It may not be only the dairy that is/was bothering her.. it could also be soy, eggs, etc. It also could take several weeks for dairy to leave her system, so you may not see results from eliminating it right away.

I am right at the end of the diet myself, and while I haven’t seen huge improvements in my son’s behavior, at least, once I start adding things back in, I will (hopefully) know for sure what is or isn’t bothering him. Best of luck to you. I really think breastfeeding a little refluxer is so heartbreaking.. There’s just someting about seeing them scream and struggle after you feed them that just makes you feel horrible.

i hope you can get him to do a PPI—-it must be frustrating to feel like you can’t get any help from doctors. we were really fortunate that the ped gi we went to is wonderful. we started with him with sylvia’s reflux–then kassie’s reflux—-and then the celiac.

Oh my gosh, what a nightmare!!! You must be so frustrated! Isn’t it annoying to have to “follow their procedures” for a week JUST to turn around and say “SEE, I TOLD YOU IT WOULDN’T WORK!” Grrrrrr. Why not jump to a PPI? I don’t understand. They are safe and if that is the last/best option…why waste time? You ALREADY tried an H2 blocker (zantac) that didn’t work, so why does he think Axid will? You shouldn’t have to live with an uncomfortable fussy baby. It’s not fair to you or her. Those doctors don’t realize what life is like at home. Good for you for telling him how you felt! I hope you find some answers soon! We’re here for ya!

that is frustrating. i understand.
i dont get why they are going to give her axid if she didnt respond to zantac….ugh.
i also have a feeling if he does give you prevacid eventually, it will be a dose that is too low.
arm yourself with marci-kids.com info and dosing in infants. be strong!!!

Naomi…come to think of it I think Ariella was more content when I stopped eating milk products. Hmmm, I didn’t pay much attention to it but it’s worth another try. I pray that’s our answer! I don’t like dairy too much anyway and it’s definitely it’s something I can live without.

Natalia, Amy, Christine, Joannah–thank you for your support. We’re going to get there one way or another . One thing I got from this experience is that sometimes you can’t just “follow” dr’s orders. You’ve got to fight for your kid for what you feel is right for them b/c if not you, then who will look out for them?
