InactiveMy daughter will be two next month and has had ongoing reflux despite meds. She has had 2 ph phrobes and a scope.
She has a dairy intolerance. So, we avoid. I am wondering about corn. Is this something they can test for? How do they test for corn syrup solids and how common is this?
She was on elecare and we had TWO trials of it and BOTH times she got an AWFUL butt rash that turned into staph and needs antibiotics. She only has ever had a rash like that with elecare trials.
She is a kid who has very loose stools, more than I KNOW is normal.
Any thoughts or advice?

InactiveI know that they can test for a corn allergy with a RAST (blood) or skin prick test. Sue (Alexis’s mom) also had her daughter tested for an allergy to corn syrup. Hopefully, she’ll post with how they tested her

InactiveWe suspected corn allergy for Taylor since she was able to tolerate any formula including Neocate! The only formula she did mildly better on was RTF Alimentum which doesn’t contain any corn but milk. The Allergiest did skin testing on her. The corn syrup is actually very controversial to do testing on since it doesn’t contain any proteins, which is what the body reacts to, but the allergiest said it is possible to have the allergy to corn syrup, so he actually bought corn syrup, dipped the skin pricker into the actually corn syrup and pricked her with it and there was definitely a skin reaction to it! He is not going to run a RAST blood test until she is over a year old since he doesn’t want to draw that much blood on her yet especially since we have avoided the positive skin test reactions, milk, corn, and corn syrup she seems to be doing fine. If she was still having problems he said he would run the blood test.

InactiveSophie only tolerated neocate as well. SHe has no allergy symtpoms like hives, eczema or vomitting. She got a HORRID butt rash when she tried elecare twice.
SHe got the same butt rash after eating candy yesterday (corn syrup) im assuming this is probably an intolerance of some sort.
We are going to GI tomorrow and I will ask. We also see Allergy on 1/29.
Would ongoing reflux, looser stools, night waking and this weird butt rash be symptoms of an intolerance? She is VERY intolerant of dairy, but we are 90% vigilent at avoidence. I only say 90% because their are some “oops” and accidental exposure.
