I got the box of Zegerid 40 mg packets today and both the pharmacy labeling and the package insert say to take this med at least one hour before a meal. I thought that Zegerid was not time-sensitive and could be given even during a meal. Which direction is correct – empty stomach or anytime?
Thanks for all of your answers to my many, many recent questions!
my daughter isn’t on Zegerid (wouldn’t take it), but we did try her on it for a few days. I e-mailed Dr. Phillips about your same question and he said you could give it anytime…I honestly can’t remember why, but I know tons of others are on Zegerid on this board, and maybe they could chime in.
I had that same question when we started Zegerid! Even the mixing instructions are so much different than what marci-kids and other moms had said. You CAN give it whenever…and I would make it with the marci-kids instructions…6.5ml of water for every packet. It makes less medicine that way and it’s still effective. Good luck and I hope it works as well for your little one as it did ours!!!!!!!!
Yes, you can give it at any time. Joel (who used to work for Dr. Phillips) said that the company who is now producing Zegerid has not yet gotten permission (fromt the FDA) to make the claim that Zegerid can be given anytime (with or without food), but Dr. Phillips himself created the drug and he says it can be given anytime.
