Inactiveso, the ped thought it was time to try again with the goodstart. i was scared, but we did it anyhow. we started last friday by mixing the alimentum and goodstart. we than started giving him just goodstart 2 days ago.
my question now is… is it normal to be gassy after a formula switch?? i know its a sign of intolerance, but he seems to be doing great otherwise. he is still happy, still sleeping well, and even spitting up less!!! but, he passes gas all day…. and its SMELLY!
i either think its his body getting used to it, or its a sign of intolerance.
what do you guys think or have experienced?

InactiveLauren:
That is too strange. We just started mixing Abby’s alimentum with Good Start on Saturday and went totally to Good Start on Monday. So far so good but she is a little more gassy (of course now she toots and laughs). Glad things are going well for him and hopefully the switch will be successfull for both of our little ones (save a little on the pocketbook as well

InactiveI think if he’s comfortable it’s fine. Myles is a little toot machine, always has been, but he’s never uncomfortable from gas because he is able to pass it. In any case I think you’ll have to stick with it for a while to be sure. I was a nervous wreck when I switched Myles to Good Start and I didn’t relax about it until he was on it for about a month and doing well.
Good luck to both of you on your Good Start trials!

Inactivethanks guys.. i am soooo nervous every time i try.. i never give it long enough though. i guess i am so scared to have things go back to they way they were when he was born. it is so weird with the gas… its literally all day and sooo stinky ( you would think he was an old man! hahaha
) oh ya, and he is also pooping after like every bottle, is that a bad sign at all??well i hope abby’s switch continues to go well too!by the way , he LOVES the taste!… how is abby doing with the difference?

InactiveNo noted problems with the taste yet – I am still adding 1 tsp rice per every 2 ounces (was doing 1 tsp per ounce) just to kind of wean her off of that. I figured not having the rice in her bottle would leave her very hungry so I thought gradual would be better for taking that away.
Keeping fingers crossed for both of our little sweeties!!

InactiveI’d watch the pooping thing because it could be a sign of an intolerance. But, if he’s still comfortable and happy I wouldn’t worry yet. Myles poops much more on whole milk then he did on good start, and he pooped more on good start than he did on breast milk and soy. So, the increase in frequency may not be bad, but I’d watch for loose stools and signs of discomfort.
My fingers are crossed for both of you.

InactiveColt had horrible gas on Goodstart Supreme and less gas on Goodstart Without DHA/ARA. We switched him from Neocate to Goodstart just the same way you are doing and he did great.

InactiveWe are using the regular Goodstart with out the DHA/ARA also as I had read a post (probably yours Kathleen) about the gas on the DHA/ARA kind. I am sure that any little change can set off a little fart factory so hopefully it gets better each day.

Inactiveyep we are doing the one w/o the dha stuff as well… because of past posts on here too.
the gas hasnt let up! and the poop isnt diarhea.. but it is loose.. but it was also loose on the alimentum.. just more of it, and again very stinky.
he has also been a bit “whinier” than normal… but he can easily be switched to being happy if he gets what he wants. if it was the formula would he act like his tummy hurt, i mean would i be able to tell its like pain or no? i feel like i am analizing everything he does..!!!

InactiveGiving it some more time will probably give you the answers you need. I remember worrying about every little whine or cry when I was trialing Good Start with Myles. It’s so hard. I think with time he will grow increasing irritable if the formula is bothering him and you will know.

Inactiveo.k so its been 2 weeks. he seems o.k, except for the gas still.. and poops after every bottle.
i wasnt too worried about it until today when i tried giving him some yogurt for the first time, and his poop right after that had a bit of moucous in it, and it usually doesnt look like that.
soooo.. should i take him off goodstart because i think he cant tolerate dairy? or is it not a big deal??

InactiveI would try and ask your ped what he thinks. It took Colt a good month to get regulated after going on Goodstart. I think I would hold off on any other dairy though. Gas is something we still deal with and he seems great on Goodstart except for that. I wish I had more answers for you. We still don’t give Colt much dairy because it can cause him problems. So maybe its just the extra dairy.

Inactivei called the nurse, and they wanted me to switch back to alimentum but i asked to do the soy before we decide to go back.. and they said to give it a shot. i was hesitant about the soy for a while, but i figure that he is 7 mos. old and a couple months of it hopefully won’t do much.. they said to try the dairy again around 10 mos. i do realize that kids are allergic to soy almost the same as dairy, but maybe he might be an exception and just not tolerate dairy well!!!
sooo… lets see how this goes! i am nervous!!

InactiveGood luck with the soy. My babies all had some soy and did fine on it. I hope Shane does ok on it, too.

Inactivethanks christine… why did your babies do soy? did they do that before goodstart?
