InactiveChristine, this is what’s happening with Jay:
We took him to the dr after a very bad cold and he was not nursing well at 3 mo the dr said he will eat after a few days. A few days went by, few weeks went by still not nursing well. For the next 5 months we had to take him back several times for teething, cold again, not eating but the drs kept sending us back saying he was putting on 10oz a month, reaching all developemental milestones and he was fine. But my concern was he was still not nursing well.
We started solids at 6 mo, would eat about 8oz fruits/veggies a day. But he only enjoyed solids for about 3wks.
2.5 wks ago we took him back again because his nursing time had decreased to 3-4 min only and I was really restless and worried. He also looked really fragile. Well, the dr suspected silent reflux and put him on Prevacid 15mg a day. He is still not interested in solids, but nursing got a little bit better about 5-10 min.
Thank you guys,
I do need a referral to see a GI, that suks. The other thing is Jay has been running a fever around 100.3, 100.5 for the past few days. I mentioned it to the dr, she tested for a UTI, it was negative. She said he was teething really badly. Just give him tylenol. Which I do. I just don’t know why he has been running a fever. He seems ok, happy, crawling. I’m just worried about this fever. He does not have any cold symtoms. He only seems very restless right before going down for the night and wakes up several times crying. The dr said Prevacid should not have caused that.
Since the dr told me on Thursday to split the dose in half. He has not been nursing that well. If it continues till Monday, I will call her again. You know I just don’t know how to approach her about upping the dose and insist on seeing a GI. I know we need to be comfortable with our peds to take our children throughout their childhood. I think I’m going to give this ped 2 more wks, then I’m definitely switching. I have seen different drs within the same practice this is the one I liked the best and now I started not liking her. I trusted her and she put me through so much this past 5 mo. My lil Jay has been suffering from Silent reflux all this time, poor baby

Inactivebabies can run fevers for no apparent reason, usually some nameless virus. the last two weekends sylvia has run fevers. one for 2 days the other for one day. i didn’t take her in to see the doc because she seemed to be ok otherwise. if he is happy and crawling, it is probably nothing serious. it makes me kind of upset when a doc won’t give a referral when someone asks, although your doc sounds like she might be willing to at some point. just really stress the fact that you know it can sometimes take months to get in, so you’d like to go ahead and get the referreal now and that if things improve you can cancel the appt. but, i would go anyway just so that you have a ped gi as a resource should you need it.
sylvia used to get really fussy after i nursed her in the evening and there was nothing i could do to make her happy. i had to hand her off to one of my twins, who could always get her to settle down and go to sleep.

Inactivecould you give him motrin? I’m not a huge fan of it, but when Adian is REALLY teething, it’s the only thing that helps with the pain.
