My son who has acid relfux, groans and strains a lot but particularly in the early AM. It appears as though he has to make a bowel movement but I don’t think that is the case. His face gets all red and his stomach is hard and he appears to be in pain. It really seems to happen when he sleeps and sometimes during the day. I don’t know if it has to do with the reflux as I suspect it might have something to do with his bowels.
My 5 month old daughter does the exact same thing. I think it is caused by constipation. Does he have normal/regular bowel movements? My daughter only goes every 3-4 days, I am begining to think that she has DGE or is allergic to her Alimentum. This may be the case with your son. I would suggest talking to your Dr. Morgan has a follow up with her GI on the 26th and I am going to talk to him about it.
Good Luck….. Let me know if you find out what is causing this……
My son has regular bowel movements, he even had one last night and this morning but he still does this groaning, I can’t figure it out. I don’t think it is constipation as he is breasfed and goes very regularly, I thought it was gas but I really have no idea, I just wish he could tell me.
My refluxers used to groan and strain sometimes when they were in pain but not consitpated. I think they were just trying to relieve their relflux pain and/or gas pain, and since they can’t pace the floors, or sit up and rock back and forth like we do when we are in pain, they do what they can do, grunt, groan, and strain.
The hard stomach does sound like it may be gas, though. How often does he do this? Mabye it’s something you are eating that is bothering him.
There was a post awhile ago when a mum suggested a warm wheat pack on the belly. I used one when Alana had gastro and seemed to be in stomach pain (just warm and kept checking it wasn’t overheating) and she got some relief. I wonder if this might help if he has some gas or stomach pain?
