InactiveHi again!
We went back to the pediatrician on Friday, because my husband wanted to make sure we had a good “game plan”. We were both really happy with thte visit– he told us to first start with giving the prevacid 1/2 solutab every 8 hours, and if that didn’t work, to go to every 6 hours, with a max of 30 mg/day. I’ve kind of moved to the 30 mg dose by default because I gave her her medicine mid-day Saturday, and she had a bit spit up within a few minutes, so I gave her the other 1/2 solutab then to make sure she got some meds in her.
My question now is: I don’t want to give every 6 hours around the clock, because that would mean waking her up in the middle of the night, and since she’s a great sleeper, I don’t want to destroy that. I was going to give her 3 doses (1 dose of a full solutab, and 2 doses of 1/2 solutabs). What is everyone’s opinion on when I should give the full tab vs. the 1/2 tab? Should the full tab be in the am to counteract any acid that may have worked up during the night, should it be mid-day while she’s doing all her eating, or before bed? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Also, we asked why she’d still be having mucus, he said the mucus would still be there until the Neocate really took hold, could even be another month or so…
Thanks everyone again!

InactiveHi Denise,
That’s great that you get to start giving Dagney 30mg!
I hope that really helps her.We also give Bryce Prevacid every 6 hours, (7:30am, 1:30pm, 7:30pm..or so) but we give equal doses each time. That works very well for him. Does Dagney’s reflux seem to be worse at a certain time of day? If so, I would just give the bigger dose closest to that time. Otherwise, could you split the 30mg into 3 equal doses? 10mg every 6 hours during the day?

InactiveI would prefer to do that, but they’re 15 mg solutabs, so I can really only cut them in half, which leaves me with 4 7.5 doses, which is what the doc wants, but I don’t want to wake her in the night, so i want to give 1 15 mg dose & 2 7.5 doses. Maybe I’ll give the larger dose at mid-day to counteract anything that’s brewing in her belly while she’s eating.
Dagney was Baptized this weekend, and it went great! She seemed to be feeling really good and didn’t even spit up that much! She was a real trooper through the whole thing!

InactiveMyles was on 10 mg / 3 times per day, which worked perfectly for him.
I gave it to him at 6:30 am, mid-afternoon (when he woke from his nap), and 7:00pm.
With some trial and error I did learn how to give him three equal doses from two 15 mg solutabls. Each day I would take the two solutabs and break them into three very close but probably not exactly 10 mg pieces. If you break each one a little off center you end up with two bigger pieces (10 mg each) and two smaller pieces (5 mg each). I’d give him the two smaller pieces as his first dose and then store the two bigger pieces in small medicine bottles or rubbermaid containers for his next two doses. Even if each piece wasn’t exactly 10 mg, it was pretty close and he was getting 30 mgs a day.
Good luck, and great news about the higher dose.

InactiveThanks, that’s a good idea, I don’t know why I didn’t think of that myself! I bought one of those pill splitter things at Walgreens, and even with that I don’t get perfect 1/2 tabs anyway. Duh, I feel so stupid, guess I’m just a little burned out! I’ll start doing that, so at leats she’ll be getting about 10mg each dose, and she’ll still get the whole 30mg in a day anyway.
