InactiveHi, I spoke to the maternal child and health nurse today and she said that Alana really should reduce from 5 to 4 bottles. Has anyone else been told this and if so how did you work it? I have started the solids 3x a day.

InactiveI BF Brianna, but I would imagine it t would be much the same. I just stopped offering Brianna the milk at the feeding she seemed the least interested in. I was feeding her before breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner and then right before bed. Well Dinner was a 6 and bed was at 7, so she was eating at around 5ish and then again at 7ish…that was just too close together anyway. I tried to just offer one side for a few days. That didn’t really work, so one day I just OK, no more and I moved dinner up to 5:30. That was the end of that feeding. Good luck!

Inactivei think its ridiculous when they try to tell you how many bottles they should be having and try to set limits. i feed my son when he is hungry and i could care less how many bottles he takes.

InactiveI guess it would really depend on your feeding schedule. Do you give the solids along with a bottle or space them apart? I haven’t started solids with my son yet, but we have dropped to four feedings already. He eats about every 4 hours, roughly. For him, dropping the fifth feed happened when I stopped waking him up late at night before I went to bed to give him a feed to hold him over till morning. He never would eat that much then, and it was more trouble waking him and getting him back to sleep. He eats now about 7:30 or 7:45, 11:45, around 4, and before bed around 7:15.
When we add solids, I plan to just add them in addition to his existing feeds like I did with my daughter.

Inactiveour feeding schedule (with bottles) is about the exact same as naomi’s. but i have the opposite problem, sometimes i can only get 3 bottles in him if for some reason he pushes one of them off a bit. it’ll seem more like a breakfast lunch and dinner bottle right before his food. and so the last one is around 5ish instead of 4 at times and than gets his food afterwards and than is in bed around 7:30, and misses his last bottle 🙁 , so is up in the middle of the night for it! soooo i’d be happy to trade situations!;) BUT honestly, i wouldnt worry about how many bottles she gets AT ALL! its fine i think to give her 5 is that she what she wants..
and does she sleep all night?

InactiveNatalia- I would probably agree with you
, I had a bit of a thought like that myself when she suggested it. But I think Alana eats out of routine or comfort. For eg. Last night she woke at 7.30 (she had a bottle at 4.30 and solids at 5.30). If I had given her a bottle I think she would have drunk it- but I just let her play and settle in her cot and 1/2 hour later she was asleep. She then slept through the night without waking- so I guess that means she wasn’t hungry.
The other thing that makes me think she might eat for comfort is that unless she is sick she would pretty much have a go at a bottle anytime it was offered.
I might try and stretch her to 3.5 hr feeds today and increase her solids a little. See how I go. She is at the 90% for her weight (keeping in mind she was a 35 week prem) so I don’t feel as if she will suffer to much…….
