Hi everyone…my daughter has GERD, and also a protein allergy. She did TERRIBLY on powdered Alimentum (only 3 oz made her gassy, diarrhea, and throwing up). What do you think of the Nutramigen, and should I try the liquid instead? My other daughter had GERD, and could only take the liquid formula as it seemed to stay down better….thanks! Oh…and do you recommend adding rice cereal to it or anything? Thanks!!!! Juliabear2007-1-26 22:41:19

some say nutri is better than alimentum.
you can try it.
my son couldnt tolerate either one-because they both contain milk proteins.
i add rice only because my son chokes on his formula if it doesnt contain rice/oatmeal. it doesnt do anything for him in terms of keeping things down.

You may want to try the RTF Alimentum, the ingredients in the powder is different than the one in the RTF. The powder contains corn starch and corn syrup and the RTF does not.

Sorry to bum rush this thread with questions, but would the corn starch and corn syrup cause constipation?? or binding a belly up with gas and stiffer stools??

usually alimentum and nuttrimagen cause diarhea…or very loose stools.

This was definately true for Tyler, but now its just the opposite with the oatmeal being added…But before we switch to Alimentum, he was PAINFULLY constipated, and had to have”help” to go in the form of a suppository being held just inside his rectum to help stimulate the push reflex…Sorry tmi

Nutramigen was so constipating for my son. He gets one serving of formula a day and just from that (using the RTF Nutramigen), after 4 days he was so constipated he didn’t go from Monday to Saturday! WE, too had to help him using a suppository. We went back to Alimentum (RTF) and it was great. Then we tried powdered Alimentum and it was horrible — he threw up more in the 3 days we used it then he had for weeks. So, we’re back to RTF Alimentum and it seems ok. He’s doing as well (which isn’t well – LOL – as he’s ever done).

So, my opinion is the liquid Alimentum is the best, but I’m sure others have had different and/or opposite results.
