InactiveKennedy is now 5 months old and has been on neocate for 2 1/2 months. I’m trying to change her over to Nutramigen again. I’m doing half and half for the past 24 hours and so far her nights are miserable and her days are ok just a little cranky. At night she seems like she’s having intestinal pain no gas just pulling the legs up.
I decided to try the switch b/c in a week we will be traveling back to Sioux Falls a 4 hour trip to see her Ped Upper GI and he said at 6 months we’ll try the switch. I want to try now so I can report to him her symptoms.
I’m not sure if should keep trying the mix or if I should just keep her on Neocate. Has anyone had any experiences with switching? Do they eventually get use to it or what? I hate to see her in pain so much at night. I’m not sure need help here.

Inactiveif she is in pain already then she is obviously not tolerating milk. THIS WILL damage her GI tract and make reflux worse. NOT a good idea. here is an article that explains it:
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6013&a mp;a mp;KW=misconceptionsmy GI said to not even try anything with milk proteins until my son is at least a year old and we may even wait until 16 months.

Inactivealso i see that it is a milk protein allergy-how did you get that diagnosed. if it is in fact an actual allergy- and not just an intolerance i cant understand why they would tell you to try a formula with milk proteins at such a young age of 5 months?

InactiveHelen: How is Kennedy doing? Wondered also about Kyle. This time when you come to Sioux Falls – I will drop everything and meet with you! When do you come?
Did you find anyone who will stock the Neocate for you? Do you have a HyVee? Ours sells it for $29.99 per can. Did you try WIC? Wonder if you qualify for any other programs since Kyle has trouble also. In May, our Children’s Miracle Network starts their new year, so you can apply for another $500 to help with the Neocate if you are not already getting help. The stuff is so expensive. We have only found CMN that can give us the $500 per year. If they only knew how much our medical expenses were and included THAT in their figures!
Good luck, Helen and keep in touch!

InactiveI don’t think it’s good idea to switch her so young, either. If she’s intolerant to milk or soy or any of the other things babies can be intolerant to I doubt she’d outgrow by six months. Nutrmigen has a lot of corn…that could be what’s bothering her. I’m sure Neocate has some corn also, but I think the Nutramigen has a lot more; like 35%. Of course, it could be the milk proteins, too. Like Natalia said, if she’s uncomfortable already after only a few days, she’s probably not ready.
How’s she been doing on the Prilosec and Neocate?
