Natalia, I understand that giving formula is not the best option but since I don’t produce as much milk anymore, I have to suppliment with something.
Laura, I know that my milk supply has diminished b/c when I pump, I don’t get much out even if I haven’t fed Ariella for more than 4 hours. The only time when I get much out is in the morning after the whole night…During the day, I don’t get much out so I can’t leave much of my milk for the babysitter to give to Ariella during the day.
no that isnt the issue i was talking about;i meant you eliminate dairy from your diet yet you use a milk based formula. if he has MSPI that could be a huge problem and will cause reflux to flair up like crazy.

InactiveNatalia, you bring a very good point. Ariella is not allergic to milk (at least my ped told me that unless you see blood in the stool, she’s not), she just tends to get very gassy if I eat milk products. We were wondering why she has been for the past two weeks since I started giving her Enfamil Lipil. I do have Nestle Good Start Soy Based Formula, should I try that? Or will she be gassy from soy based products as well if she’s gassy from milk based products?

Inactivemy son is intolerant to milk and soy. many babies that are milk protein intolerant are also soy protein intolerant. but not all babies are this way. you will never know unless you try it. my son was very gassy on both milk and soy and had diarhea a lot. also mucous in stools is an indicator of MSPI as well as general uncomfortableness and relfux flair ups.

InactiveThank you for replying so quickly. Ariella doesn’t have any mucous in her stools, she’s become just extremely gassy lately. You’re right, I should just probably try it first and see how she does on it. How long should I try it for? One week is enough?

Inactiveno, at least 2-3 weeks. some docs even say a month. it takes a while for milk proteins to clear out of the system and for a new formula to take over.

InactiveHmm…good thing I asked. Thank you very much for the info. I’m hoping that’s our solution to the gas problems. It’s been tough lately. She was good on Prevacid then all of a sudden, it’s gas attack all over again and she’s not falling asleep until 1 am and it’s a mess (since hubby and I have to wake up at 6 am to go to work).

Oh well, we’ll get there eventually, right??

InactiveMy daughter does not have the classic signs of milk allergy, but any time I switched her back her fussiness got terrible and she wouldn’t sleep well. She is now on Isomil. I noticed a difference after a couple days. I add oatmeal to each bottle also to help keep it down and she is on 15mg solutabs a day (split into 2 doses). I have noticed a lot of improvement, BUT it took a few weeks to notice the improvement after starting the Prevacid.
I know it is hard, but I basically do anything to make her comfortable. I have even had to sleep sitting up with her just so I could get some sleep.
