InactiveI emailed Dr Phillips to ask about this and below in red is his response.
“Yes of course
You just have to do it the way we recommend.“Hope this clears things up! Zegerid has been a wonderful help to my daughter in managing her reflux!Oh, and I agree with Emily…another reason that no one will say any medication is recommended for infants is bc no one wants to do testing on infants…you know what I mean? (look on tylenol for example…before 2 years they say to contact a physican. No mother would want her baby to be the ginny pig! 🙂addysmommy 2007-2-1 11:8:55 February 1, 2007 at 11:33 am #23723Anonymous
InactiveDr. Phillips is a genius, no doubt. His replies always make me laugh… short and to the point!

InactiveSo, what should I do if my pharmacist will not give it to me because the company said he shouldn’t? I am assuming if my Dr. wrote a persc. for it he would right? How should I get my Dr. to switch from Prilosec to Zenegrid?

InactiveAlso, Dr Phillips just responded to my email with the info below in red:
Well let me explain
Santarus can’t officially recommend Zegerid for use in children.
Also for example Prevacid is not approved for infants.
This is an unfortunately common problem in treating infants.
SO you have to look at the research that is being done by individual researchers.February 1, 2007 at 2:39 pm #23757Anonymous
InactiveSarah,
Can you try another pharmacy? Plenty of babies are on Zegerid so pharmacists can certainly fill the RX for infants. Your’s just sounds like a real stickler (is that a word?).

InactiveYour doc should write the script for zegerid, that way the pharmacy will fill it. If they still won’t fill it, then go to a new pharmacy.

InactiveWalgreens didn’t want to give my son prevacid. His dr. prescribed it and when I got there she told me all about how it wasn’t fda approved and he may get some sort of cancer. BLAH BLAH BLAH. She said I should do an H-2 blocker. This was a bad day for me and I explained to her that h-2 blockers usually don’t work in infants. Basically I told her all the info I knew. We finally stopped going to walgreens for his meds. Everytime I see that lady I get mad. We now go to Sams. It is amazing the price difference. Not only is it like 60 dollars cheaper, but sams will take the Zegerid coupon and walgreens won’t. What a jip. Walgreens makes all kinds of money and they won’t take a little 30 dollar coupon.
It makes me ill to think about it.February 1, 2007 at 5:26 pm #23772Anonymous
InactiveI am going to talk to my dr. about perscribing it.. the problem is I live in a small town so we have one little pharmacy 🙂 I could drive 25 min to one but I would love to not have to make that trip!

InactiveI understand. It used to take me 20 minutes to drive to the compounding pharmacy (35 minutes with traffic) every 2 weeks. I HATED it!!!
