InactiveI swear my kids are going to give me a heart attack before I turn thirty.
Parker was jumping on my bed (after being told not to) and fell, hitting his head on the edge of the window sill. His head was split open clear to the skull! Josh (husband) was at work & unreachable, so my FIL took us to the ER while MIL watched Bryce & Isaac. Luckily Josh was due home fairly soon, so he could feed Bryce (nobody knows how to feed Bryce but Josh and me). Of course the wait was SO long at ER, so we were still in the waiting room when Josh got done feeding Bry, he came down to trade off his dad. Parker did so well. He didn’t even cry – everyone was so impressed. Just as he was about to get his stitches, however, a nurse came and said to call my FIL right away – they had accidentally pulled out the babies feeding tube! Ugh! So Josh ran home to put it back in his stomach. We were afraid he wouldn’t make it back in time before his stomach closed up, so Josh had to instruct them over the phone how to reinsert it. My MIL was freaking out! Luckily they got it in okay, & Josh checked it when he got there, then he turned around & came to pick up Parker and me.

So that’s my adventure story of the night.

InactiveOh my goodness! I so feel for you! What these kids do to us! I hope Parker doesn’t suffer any long lasting ill effects, well except the one that reminds him not to jump on the bed again
I’ll keep your family in our prayers!

InactiveI pray that one day you will be able to laugh at this story. I have three boys so its not odd to have something like this happen. Maybe its time to teach MIL how to feed Bryce. Oh and it always seems to happen when DH is at work. I am sorry I hope things start getting better for you. I will keep you in my prayers.

InactiveHeather, Heather, Heather!!!
You are such a brave woman! You take everything in stride! If it were me, I think I would have found the Psych floor at the hospital and checked myself in!!!
I’m glad your husband is so helpful and your in laws live close to you especially when you need them. Hope everyone is doing well today. Why are the 2 y/o’s always such dare devils? How did the tube come out? Usually aren’t the tubes stitched in? Get some rest prior to the SuperBowl!Alexis’s mom2007-2-4 12:39:54

InactiveWell Parker seemed to have a bit of a headache today, but otherwise is doing great. Hopefully they’ll learn not to jump on the bed! (yeah right). The ironic thing was that while they were jumping, I could hear Isaac singing that monkey song – “Two little monkeys jumping on the bed. One fell off and broke his head!”

That song makes me cringe now.Unfortunately, my MIL refuses to learn to feed Bryce. She’s scared to death of the feeding tube, and is even worse after last night. My mom will feed him, but she lives 2.5 hours away. My sister also offered to learn to feed him if we ever want to go out together (and we’re going to take her up on that soon!). She’s an hour from us. I do wish the in-laws would at least learn to do it just in case something happened to us or something.

Sue, the tube actually isn’t stitched in. It’s kind of hard to explain, but after you insert the tube, you inflate a little balloon with water, and that holds it in his stomach. If that makes sense. As for how it came out, after Josh fed him he laid him in his carrier so he wouldn’t spit up. The extension was still connected to the g-tube button. My FIL went to pick him up a little later and it got caught on the carrier & pulled right out.
I feel bad – they’re both so traumatized about it.February 4, 2007 at 8:43 pm #24080Anonymous
InactiveOH HEATHER – I am so sorry to hear… my biggest fear is that Matthew pulls out his button… i freak out only thinking about it!
Glad that Parker is doing well!

InactiveThais,
It is scary to have the tube come out! Bryce just pulled his out another time less than a week ago. It’s weird because it never happens, but this week it’s been pulled out twice in one week! Actually, once you actually have to do it, it’s really not that bad. Not any worse than having to thread an NG tube down, really.

InactiveHeather- you are amazing. I continue to be in awe of how you manage everything with such a positive attitude
. I am so glad that the boys are now doing OK.February 5, 2007 at 10:22 am #24111Anonymous
InactiveHeather,
How does it come out with that air bubble in the way? Does it hurt him when it comes out like that? I hope not.
I know what you mean about not having people around to help. I’m fortunate that my children don’t have any medical problems, but I don’t have any help at all when I need it. My family’s in NY, and when my in-laws are here 5 times a year for a week, they are very resistant to doing any childcare whatsoever. My MIL even told me that they won’t move up here partially because she’s afraid I’ll ask her to babysit.
You’re situation is so much harder than mine because of Bryce’s medical needs, so I really feel for you. I’m glad that your sister is willing to help so you can get out once in a while. Sisters are terrific, aren’t they?
I always disliked that monkeys on the bed song because every kid I every babysat for and my own kids are inspired by it to jump on the bed. They seem to miss the part about bumping their heads, or they think it’s worth the risk.

InactiveAlexis just learned the lyrics to that song and has been jumping on the bed while singing it too! She has a daybed so she stands while holding the railings jumping. No matter how often I tell her or how loud I yell at her to stop she just won’t 2 year olds! Cute song but not when children try to do what the song says!!!! I’m glad Parker and Bryce is doing fine! You are right the in laws should learn how to feed just incase of an emergency such as this! I really wished we lived closer to each other, since we really could help each other out!!! There should be a reflux living community!!!
Imagine the water bill for that community all the extra laundry that has to be done due to all the spitting up, but a very understanding one! Anyways, hoping for an uneventful few days, weeks, months, years for you!!! -
