I am starting to feel like I live on this page. I called the doctor today because Chloe’ had been pulling at her ears, she is not running a fever but she is not eating well today at all. The nurse said just to keep an I on her for a couple of days, due to it could be a developmental thing that she has realized she has an ear,but she is pretty much refusing the bottle. At the same time, she is bitting on the nipples, drooling and her gums are pale, and her reflux seems to be getting worse, or at least as I asked earlier coming up instead of her just sollowing it back down. Could she be teething or have a ear infection or does it sound like both? Yeah!
She has been more fussy wanting to be held and not put down, but when I touch her ear she does not seem to mind at all. so once again I am confused. We do have gi test on Monday for a more in dept swallow test and some stomach testing. FinallyFebruary 15, 2007 at 9:53 am #24935Anonymous
InactiveI’d take her in despite what the nurse said. Yes, it’s true that babies find their ears at some point and may begin to pull on them just because they’ve found them, but when you combine that with her irritability and not eating it sounds suspicious to me. I don’t even call anymore. If I think something’s wrong I make an appointment and I bring them in.
Oh, and my children have all had ear infections with no fever.

Good luck with her gi tests on Monday. Please keep us posted about that, and about her ear.

InactiveJustice is doing the same thing right now, but I think his is teething. I can see that his gums are swollen and he is biting on me. I have been curious about the not wanting to eat too. He is also spitting up and is not usually a spitter. Funny though he is sleeping better recently. If you do go to the dr. let us know what they say.

InactiveSorry to hijack, but Shelby, how is Justice doing these days? Did you try the med decrease or what did you decide to do? Hope things are going well!!

InactiveIt is amazing how much better he is doing. Of course, I’m scared to say that, but things are better. I am only doing 2 doses of 3.5 ml a day right now. Next week we are going to do no zegerid. His sleeping is not what some whould like, but it works for me. He just got up from a nap that was a little over an hour long. Can you believe it? Also, funny enough I have learned that he sleeps better in 100% cotton. I think the zegeird decrease, cotton clothes, and a little no cry sleep solution has worked wonders. Of course, he is 9 months now and maybe him just outgrowing it has helped. Like I said before though he has started spitting up more than usual, but I am hopeing it is just teething. I am excited to maybe be able to finally help some other moms.

InactiveI just got back from the doctor, did not see our regular ped, the doctor we saw immediately ordered a ultra sound of the stomach to look at the muscle in the stomach the second part of the esphagus I think. We will hear back this afternoon to see if this is open. I was in a panic and i don’t even think he looked at her ears at all. She refused to eat this morning at 7:00 am again and so I called and we were seen at 10:00 were she conintined to refuse to eat. During the ultrasound she finally drank 3 oz of pedilite and has taken 1ozand 1/2 of milk since then. Does anyone have experience with the stomach valve being open? During the test we could see what she was drinking going in and out of the stomach. It looked like it was flowing back and forth, like it was going in and coming back out, don’t know what the outcome would be!!

InactiveHmmm…..maybe pyloric stenosis? I’m not really sure but I don’t think food should be flowing back and forth. Please let us know. I’ll be praying for her.

Inactivemy daughter’s been doing almost the same thing…she’s always scratched just above her ear when she’s getting tired, so she does that once in a while, but she’s not as interested in eating, a bit crankier, playing with the bottle nipples, biting everything, spitting up more again, and not sleeping well during the day…i’m thinking this may be teething…is that what it sounds like to anyone else? She even bends over now when she’s in her exersaucer and bites the edge of the seat, it’s really funny, i have a bunch of pics of her doing that today!

InactiveWow! What a great doctor to be so pro-active! I hope the test results come back conclusive. There’s nothing worse than hearing “everything is fine” when you know it obviously isn’t! ALL of the ear infections that Sarah has been diagnosed with (4 total) have NEVER included a fever. Her ears haven’t ever reached the pussing and bulging stage but were obviously in the beginning stages of an ear infection and enough to bother her. Maybe the fever only comes when the ears get really bad? Irritability and refusing the bottle are my two clues that she has an ear infection (or the start of one). I don’t remember her refusing the bottle while teething (but she only has two teeth so far). Her reflux did flare up BIG TIME during her teething though and I ended up increasing her dosage because of it. I hope you get some answers soon!!!

Inactivehave not heard back from the doctor yet, Chloe has eaten some formula but has taken apple juice like a champ. This is confusing that she had no trouble taking juice but is fighting the formula. She is on elecare, maybe it is time to ask about trying somthing else. I am afaird though because I am sure she has a milk protein allergy.

InactiveMaybe it’s a taste issue. I’ve heard that these elemental formulas taste pretty nasty. There was a post a while ago about ways to flavor it to make it more palatable. I’ll see if I can find it for you.
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6600&a mp;KW=neocate This is a thread that talks about flavoring Neocate…maybe there are some ideas there for you if taste is an issue.
I hope you get the results of her ultrasound soon. I’ve been praying for her.

Inactiveso, ultrasound of stomach came back fine and we also did upper gi and stomach follow through and they are fine, did show some reflux, so now I am looking at a formula issue. the elecare is new and everyone who has watched her eat says that she does not like the formula. She drank bramiun today with no trouble and more than she does of her milk. Maybe when she is making faces and I think she is hurting its just she hates the milk

InactiveI’m glad to hear the tests all came back good.
It does seem that she probably does not like the taste of the formula. She wouldn’t be the first. I’ve heard these formulas (Neocate and Elecare) taste pretty bad. -
