Inactive7.5 mg three times a day would probably be great for him. If I had a friend who could write scripts I’d have him write one for me, one for dh, and one for baby, too!
I’d have a closet full of the stuff!
Myles didn’t get relief until he was on 30 mg. He was 5 months old and 16-17 lbs.

InactiveThanks ladies for the advice. I love that you all can make me chuckle through all of this!!
I call my DR friend and left message, so I am hoping he will call soon.
The Pedi called a minute ago and made me go through my whole spiel, and then goes “well we can call in the 15mg rx right now if you want” *&&*&%*$UHEUY*#$)(@)(#
This conversation was over the screams of my baby by the way, grrrrrrrr!
They are fired!!!
I am going to fill it and then go find a new ped…

InactiveGood luck. I think a new doctor is definitely a good idea.
If your friend is leery about the high dose of Prevacid you are asking for, maybe show him the marci-kids info.
I hope you get the higher dose for Cooper soon.

InactiveOkay, I talked to my friend and they are going to go ahead and call in the 30 mgs. Praise the Lord!
DS is totally back to square one again, so it pretty obvious that 15 is NOT cutting it!
Thanks ladies for listening to me rant…

InactiveThank goodness for your friend! Good luck with the 30 mgs. That’s what finally turned things around for Myles.
I hope it’s the answer for your little guy too.March 1, 2007 at 11:15 am #26189Anonymous
InactiveI hope it does the trick! Keep us posted.

InactiveOne thing my DR pal brought up with the higher dose would be that his stomach might not make enough acid and develop gastro- something?? We were on our cell phones, so I couldn’t make out every word. Can anyone fill in the blanks? It was along the lines of not having the right amount of bacteria in the intestines or something. If I’m on the right track here, could I give him a probiotic to counter that??
So confused at this point!

InactiveYes, there’s been some speculation (I don’t think any actual studies have been done) that the lack of stomach acid could cause an imbalance between the good bacteria and bad bacteria in the stomach thereby increasing the possibility of gastritis (a gi infection). Since being on this board for over a year I haven’t heard of any babies having this problem, though.

InactiveWell, I guess this site is a study in and of itself! That’s good news that its pretty rare. I was starting to really second guess myself, which I think is one of the worst “side effects” of this whole relfux deal…
Does anyone give thier kiddos probiotics? Is 6 weeks to young for that? I have some left over from my older son while he was on antibiotics. The label say 0-6 years, mix with food, formula or breast milk- guess that answers my question!

InactiveWe gave probiotics, but she was over 6 months when we started doing that. I don’t think you have to worry too much if you have a brand that’s safe for babies. Some kinds have dairy and soy in them, so you need to read the label.
