InactiveWe are still having problems with sleep—- we seem to have some good days and then really BAD MONTHS! Oh well…. right now Ryder is taking 2 naps.
He is taking one in the AM for about 1.5-2 hrs and then one in the afternnon for only a hour. Ia m wondering if he maybe he is ready to go to one nap, but it’s so early for him to do it!
All of my other kids would drop down to one nap at 15 months or so.
I do think he has gotten into a bad sleep pattern at night– though I am still not sure if he is comfort nursing due to reflux or just wanting me.
He was doing good while being on prevacid and axid—-though we are only on prevacid right now. When we last went to the GI dr he said that it wasnt servere reflux but everyone deals with pain differently.
He is pretty good during the day but then at night he is up so much—I never thought this is what would be going on at almost 10 months!!

InactiveIf he’s still not sleeping well at night I’d really be suspicious of reflux pain. Even minor reflux (if there is such a thing) involves acid, and acid burns. Do you have any Axid that you could maybe try at bedtime?
I think he’s a little young for one nap, especially given that he isn’t sleeping well at night yet.

InactiveSorry…I am not sure how much prevacid you give and when? Do you give a dose currently before bed? The reason I ask is if you don’t maybe you could for a couple of days and see if it helps (or increase the bedtime dose). This could give you a hint to see if it is reflux or not?

InactiveGood luck finding answers. We also moved Hailey’s prevacid before bed to cover her. But I was leary, b/c some moms swear that giving it before bed has been linked to frequent night wakings.

InactiveI guess I should add that playing around with the timing of the meds really didn’t make any difference for her either way. But I do think it’s worth a try.

InactiveOK, sorry to do this again… but I just reread your initial post.
If he was doing well on the axid/prevacid combo, then I would keep him on that. Do what works.
As for your doc saying that “it’s not severe reflux, just that everyone deals with pain differently”, I’d tell him to go shove it (sorry for being so rude!). But our doc told me this over and over with Hailey. That it wasn’t severe reflux, but that she was just a fussy baby with a low pain threshold. Then one day I got really pissed off and asked him how he knew this just by looking at her. He had no comment really. Then I told him that I stopped counting her reflux episodes at over 150 in a period of 6 hours, and that was only when I was near her. I also videotaped footage of Hailey screaming nonstop, shrieking, thrashing around, refusing feeds, pushing us away she was arching so badly that she almost fell out of my arms, and vomitting through the mouth and nose projectile all over. He ate his words. (I still think that he doesn’t believe it’s bad reflux, and was just trying to get me out of his face, but with silent reflux, you can’t tell how bad it is. Also, what makes the reflux bad isn’t the number of episodes of vomitting, but the number and acidity, and additional complications, and how much the child is disrupted by it).
Don’t let anyone play down your child’s pain. If you need to, you can always do a probe to see what’s going on. I wish we had that option way back when.
HUGS.

InactiveIs axid an H-2 blocker? If so you could try pepcid complete at night or whenever you did the axid. I wouldn’t even tell your doc. I would ask Dr. Phillips about how much. Justice did a whole tablet. It would probably be easier to get something to crush up the tablets too. It is a pain in the butt to try to crush them up on your own.
Also, Justice doesn’t sleep well either and I know his isn’t reflux pain. He is sleeping better now that he is off zegerid, but still doens’t sleep well. While on zegerid he took 2 ,30 min naps. Now off zegerid will sometimes take one 2 hr nap and one 1 hr nap. Sometimes just one hr naps. At night on zegerid he woke every hour or more off zegerid he wakes about every 2 hrs. Sometimes still every hour. Honestly there isn’t any real night time pattern. His naps are better, but night is not. All that to say, it may not be reflux. I am still trying to figure it all out. I am clueless. All I know is we tryed mylanta, pepcid, and zegerid and nothing helped the sleep. When we tell his doc that he isn’t sleeping well she just says its odd for his age. No
shurlock. That is what everyone tells me. Sorry, I don’t curse a whole lot, but it really makes me mad. I almost feel like reflux babies dont learn how to go to sleep on their own due to the pain and once the pain is gone the sleep problem is still there. I hope for you it is an easy fix though. I keep hoping for us that we will find the magic pill or for me the happy pill.
