InactiveI’m grasping at straws to find out why my ds doesn’t do well at night. he turns 2 tomorrow. It’s been two LONG years!! And we are exhausted. I always thought it was the reflux, but now I wonder if it’s not a sleep disorder.
Can anyone tell me anything about night seizures?
Henry doesn’t wake up at night. He screams/cries/whimpers/thrashes in his sleep. Sometimes we’ll go in thinking he’s awake. It’s dark, he’s sitting up, was just talking a second ago, when we go to pick him up, he falls over in a dead on sleep!!! it’s really freaky! this behavior has us up about every hour though the night. some nights are better than others.
anything you can shed light on for me would help. I’m soooo tired!!

InactiveMaybe night terrors? My middle child used to have them, but usually only two to three per night. Have you talked to his doctor?

InactiveHi Amy!
We’re going through the same thing with Hailey. Sounds exactly like your description of Henry. Her limbs also jerk around. I was going to ask the doctor about sleep myoclonus just to be sure, but I doubt that’s the problem. (She had a normal EEG.)
More and more, I’m starting to wonder about sleep apnea/obstructed breathing. I really think a sleep study is in order for Hailey. Maybe it would give you some answers for Henry as well.
Hailey has these episodes at least 10-12 times a night or more, and she puts herself to sleep for about half of them.
She often whimpers, thrashes around, her legs and arms jerk out suddenly, sometimes she gasps, snores, coughs, and then there’s just the flat out shrieking cry (not the attention, “I want mommy” kind) like she’s being tortured. The signs vary, but she’s always a restless sleeper.
Good luck. Please let me know if you find answers. We’re also desperate for some sleep.

InactiveOh yes, and BTW, happy birthday to Henry!!!!!! (I can’t believe that our babies are turning two already!)
How is he doing otherwise? And what about Lucy?

InactiveHi girls!! Night terrors, when I look at it, just looks too severe or just different. But I always go back to that phrase. I think it’s a spin off of night terrors.
No, we just keep dealing with it. I know he probably needs a sleep study, but then what??? Would they do anything for it? So why test??? Why put us all through it? My insurance sucks too, so it would be lots of $$:(
I guess I just wondered if you all knew if they do anything for these kinds of things.
Yeah, Henry’s big birthday weekend. Having his party tonight. Expecting about 20 people!! He’s got more friends than we do
At this point, we have him off all his meds!!! can you believe it??? He’s doing great. Lucy’s still on her prevacid. and sstn and BFing!!! I’ve been blessed with her. They are both such great kids. and a lot of fun. Nice to see you all. miss you. Just not too much time to check in anymore, not to mention that they are doing so great. Don’t feel like a “reflux mom” anymore.
Lori, don’t Henry and Hailey always sound alike??? Weird!!

InactiveJustice also sounds like that. His sleeping has gotten a little better, but is still weird to me. He sleeps with me and what he does is wake up and play with my hair and face for about 5 min or more and then all of a sudden his eyes are closed and he is in rem sleep. He also crawls all over me in his sleep. I have a video of him waking on you tube. My older son Luke also does weird stuff. He wakes up and cries, sits up and then falls over and is asleep. He does it frequently. Probably 3 times during a nap. I didn’t even realize he did that until we were gone and sleeping in the same room.My husband also does weird stuff in his sleep. My husbands might be normal though. He wakes up from night mares and crawls backwards off the bed and looks around frantic until I touch him and tell him it’s okay. He never remembers it the next day. That might be normal stuff with dh, but very funny.
Once while going through it he told me crabs were chasing him.
If you guys figure it out please let me know. I also would love to do a sleep study. Just to know if it’s all normal, but can’t afford it and dh doesn’t want to do it. Evergreenie said something about in Australia they have sleep school. I don’t think we have that here though.March 3, 2007 at 11:01 am #26479Anonymous
Inactiveomg shelby.. shane has been doing the same thing now! doing his tossing and rolling thing.. than sits up and collapses and falls back asleep!!! i REALLY think his is something else other than reflux too.
AND my husband is JUST LIKE your husband!! he scares me at night! some other person completely! whatever he dreams comes out into the real world. he too thought he has spiders on him one night. but he also does this fast head turning thing side to side.. he is a teeth grinder and his limbs do unvoluntarily move as well! maybe its a sleep thing and gets passed down?! (* oh and you know whats the funniest.. he always talks too in his sleep.. and i only get a short window to ask him questions! haha.. he’ll answer them and than all of a sudden shut off and fall back into a deep sleep. one night he was talking about someone from work saying “she” haha..and boy did i have fun with that one!)

InactiveLucy, that’s great that Henry’s off all meds!!! Are you guys still doing gluten free? What about periactin? How’s his eating?
Glad to hear that you’re doing well and that you no longer feel like a reflux mom!!! (Can’t wait to say that!)

InactiveI have always heard that sleep walking passes down through the genes. This must all be some form of sleep walking. When I looked up sleep walking, the “night seizures” is a shoot off of the sleep walking. I think I may be the one who does funny things when I sleep, but I’ll ask my dh. He has sleep walkers in his family, but not severe.
Hi Lori. No periactin either!! How about that. We couldn’t go off it until we added the probiotics. We do limit gluten, but not totally. Some days are better than others:) I never thought Henry would ever be off his meds. It’s still amazing to me. Now we just have to get dd off them. At least she doesn’t have this sleep thing!! PM me an update on Hailey when you get time.
