InactiveWell, not really sure what is up. Each night has been getting worse with Abby. I am not sure if it is reflux or perhaps an ear infection. Can’t get to the doctor due to the disgusting blizzard we are having and all the doctor offices are closed. We live 30 miles from town so travel is almost impossible (and too dangerous). Each night this week has been more and more difficult to get her to sleep and she has been crying on and off during the night. Last night was by far the worst (by Abby’s standards anyway). We gave her motrin before bed and again at 12:00. As soon as I took her out of her room and sat with her and rocked, she fell asleep but not comfortably. I also tried mylanta but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference. Daytimes, she is mostly happy so it is so confusing???
To make a long story short, I think we are going to try putting her back on her evening Zegerid dose and see if it helps her out at all. She has been off it since this past Sunday. Any other ideas, suggestions…

InactiveI think that’s what I would do for now. You can always stop the meds again after you get her to the doc to see if something else is bothering her…..and if it is reflux she should feel better soon once she’s back on meds, so then at least you would know. I’d probably put her back on her full dose, though because if it is reflux the one dose may not be enough and then you’ll be confused if it doesn’t work.
I’m sorry it’s not going well. Being snowed in when your baby is sick must be horrible.

InactiveI agree with adding the dose back in. Brianna was always this way…happy during the day, but trouble sleeping at night. Now that Abby is a year and is upright during most of the day, the reflux might not bother her as much during the day, but lying down might be a different story. It is worth a try to at least see since you can’t get into the Dr. right now. Keep us posted!

InactiveWe have Colton on one dose a day and he does great. We give it to him before bedtime and seems to work ok for him. Its possible she has an ear infection. Colton doesn’t like to be laid down when he has an ear infection. I hope you can get her to a doctor soon.

InactiveKathleen:
Do you give the entire 28 mg in one dose or has your dosage reduced since you last updated your signature – just curious???
She is taking a great nap now and has done really well with naps, which leads me to really wonder about everything because if it was reflux or ears, wouldn’t it bother at naptime too
. Maybe it’s teeth or maybe she is just going through an ornery streak (where in the world would she get that from
) We have had so much snow that my hubby spend 3 hours on the roof getting the snow off as it was getting too heavy. Now he is clearing out our yard for the 3rd time in the last 2 days. Running out of places to put the snow – anyone interested – I’d be happy to send you some

Thanks for all the responses and advice!!

InactiveRobin,
Colton gets 20mgs at bedtime. If he has a bad night I will generally give an additional 8mgs but I haven’t done that in quite awhile. We have decided to keep him on it until we do his whole milk trial this month. If the milk trial goes well then we will try dropping his nighttime dosage of Zegerid.

InactiveWe also have cut back to one dose. I give somewhere between 25-30mg at night and we’ve been doing this for a few months. There’s been no change in her day time behaviour- she’s quite content- and her nightime “shtick” has basically stayed the same- no better, no worse.
I would also try to add the dose back in at night and see if it helps. Good luck

InactiveJustice was exactly the same way when we were taking him off his zegerid. I don’t know if for him it was because it bothered him coming out of his system. He didn’t seem in pain during the day and took the best naps ever, but at night didn’t sleep well at all. Why, I have no clue. Now his nightime sleep is better and naps are a little shorter.
I would say if she seems to be in pain, add the dose back in. I know all this stuff drives me crazy too.March 2, 2007 at 8:54 pm #26426Anonymous
InactiveDon’t rule out the ears though. That sounds just like Ben when he had his ear infection a few weeks ago. Fine during the day, but did not want to lie down at all. However, he would for his naps… didn’t sleep as long though. I’ve heard ears bother you more at night, so maybe that’s why she is sleeping her naps ok. Plus, she might just be tuckered out from being up at night???

Inactiveshane is doing the same as well! off meds for the 2nd day today.. (i will post about it in another post).. but his sleep is really restless tonight and last night. i am not sure if its due to coming off meds.. i know the reflux flares a bit as they adjust to being off. but shane has a runny nose, so i am curious as well as if its due to that… plus i know he is teething too!
what a guessing game!! but both my ped. and GI ped think that he should be off if he is happy during the day.. and if the acid was really bothering him than he would be waking up showing signs of reflux, such as coughing and screaming from the pain. he doesnt do any of that and is happy as anything other wise. soo if the doctors are right than it prob isnt reflux, but if they are wrong than we should get them back on huh?

InactiveSorry to hear things aren’t going well Robin
. Just another POV…not sure if it is even remotely true but…I vaguely remember someone posting and saying the first two weeks things can get a bit rough as the system is readjusting etc (bit like behaviour management gets worse before it gets better) but it then levels out. I’m not 100% sure this is right but might be something worth considering? I guess she has been on the meds for awhile and going of them totally (even with a reducing dose) must have an effect. When I read this…I just thought to myself…isn’t it amazing this WWW. In the past there is no way that two people as far apart geographically as us…could know each other at all. I sound old now

InactiveI agree Therese! Thank goodness for the internet!
Robin – I also agree with everyone else about maybe adding another dose back in until everything else is figured out. Good luck!

InactiveWell, just a quick update. We gave her an afternoon and evening dose on Friday and she slept perfectly all night Friday night, gave her the same on Saturday and she slept well Saturday night. We are actually at my sister-in-laws in Minnesota right now (left Saturday morning – the roads were pretty good surprisingly – I think the 40 mile per hour wind blew the snow right off the road. So, Abby slept last night in her playpen in a strange place and other than a few wimpers, she slept great. Hopefully adding back a dose or two will be the solution.
Well, we are ready to leave so I better run – more later!!

I’m glad to hear she is feeling better, but sorry that she may not be ready to go off of meds yet.
Have a nice visit at your sil’s and get home safely.

InactiveWell I guess little Abby was telling us something. Wouldn’t it just be so nice not to have to give meds anymore. I think I daydream about this at least once a day
