InactiveFor those of you who have weaned off meds–does your LO ever have
occasional nights of reflux? I think that is what is going on for ds. I
weaned him off Zegerid over a month ago, and his sleep was finally
starting to improve. I’d say we have had two or three nights where I gave
him Cherry Mylanta Supreme because he woke up and smelled sour. Now
the past 3 nights have been progressively worse again, back to waking
every 2 hours (he was waking only 3 times a night at his very very best,
but it was do-able for me).
Can’t tell if he’s teething, refluxing (he is a silent refluxer), having cold
related problems (just getting over one), food reaction or WHAT! He’s
about to turn 1 year next week, and I’m ready for him to start talking
already so he can tell me what is up. I’m so tired.
If your LO does experience occasional nighttime reflux reoccurence, how
do you treat it? How do you not panic about a full blown return of reflux
at it’s worse?

InactiveI’m right there with you. Sorry, I don’t have any answers. I don’t think Justice’s waking is reflux, but it always a thought on my mind. I think his has been teething. It is so confusing! It drives me crazy! I will say if it were me and I knew it was reflux I would try some pepcid or tums. The dissovable tums you can put in some water and then suck it up with a syringe. The pepcid you can crush it and put some water in it and suck it up in a syringe also.

InactiveThank you Shelby! I read your other post–I’m sorry you are having such
a difficult time!
Do you prefer the Tums/pepcid over the CMS? I’ve never used either, but
the Mylanta seems to work OK. Last night he had some trouble at 10pm,
but then went on to do pretty well, only waking again at 2 and 5, and
going right back down after a short feed.
The only time I’m sure it’s reflux is when I can smell the sour on his
breath. Other than that it’s a toss up as to what is bugging him. We did
some sleep training a couple of months ago, and that helped immensely,
though it was very slow work, as I felt like we needed to be sure it wasn’t
reflux that was waking him. Now at least I know that if he isn’t able to
stay down, it’s because something is truly bothering him. Other than that
he really seems to try to sleep. And still, it’s an improvement over my
daughter, who didn’t sleep in her own bed or through the night until
nearly 2.
I hope you get some needed sleep soon!

InactiveThank you. I did like the tums and pepcid better because Justice had major blow outs with the mylanta. It also seemed like maybe it bothered his belly.
What kind of sleep training did you do? Did you do CIO?

InactiveWe did kind of a modified Ferber. Our main objective was to reduce the
night feedings, so I picked certain times to feed him (11, 2 and 4), and then
dh took all the wakings in between. He did some CIO in arms, some in his
crib. We tried to keep it consistent, but gentle (I was soooo against CIO with
dd, so it was very odd to me that my beliefs changed on that one–I guess
extreme fatigue can do that).
We tried to drop the 2am feeding, but so far he’s not going for it, and I’m
not willing to get tough just yet…
