InactiveThanks. Seth is eating some dairy now but I remember how frustrating it was trying to find things for him to eat when he couldn’t!

InactiveTiffany: I see in your signature that Seth has rice milk and pediasure. Did you find a pediasure that is dairy-free or with the milk broken down? I would love to take Carson off the Neocate. I add it to his rice milk for extra calories. How long has he been on the pediasure?? Did he tolerate it right from the start? Oh, this may be something I try! Anxiously awaiting your response!

InactiveBrenda,
We started rice milk with Seth at around 12 months or so but since it did not contain enough fat or protein I still supplemented with about 8 oz. of Alimentum until about 18 months. At his 18 month visit, the ped. thought the Pediasure (or silk soy milk which I was too scared of since our brief trial with soy formula was worse than milk based ones) would be more age approriate than the Alimentum so we switched. It does contain some milk proteins but is not primarily milk based. It is also lactose free. He has done great with it from the beginning. We give him one Pediasure in the morning and then rice milk throughout the day (along with small amounts of juice and water).
At the time we tried the Pediasure though he was eating hidden dairy and things like mac and cheese, pizza, etc (started being able to tolerate things like this about 15 months or so).
At his two year old visit, his ped. suggested we can now try the Lactaid milk since he has done so well with the Pediasure. I have bought it on occassion but always chicken out trying it.
I now I can’t put it off forever but I am just scared to mess with a good thing. We go on vacation at the end of the month and I decided I will give it a go when we get back. Keep your fingers crossed for us!One more thing I should mention, Seth’s weight % was always low due to the reflux. I don’t know if that is the case with Carson but that is one reason too they recomended the Pediasure. At his two year old check up, he was in the 49% for weight
– the highest he has ever been! If weight is not an issue, you may want to check with his ped. before you give it a try.Hope this helps and did not confuse you more!

InactiveThanks Tiffany! Carson is way below the 0 percent on the charts. His weight has always been an issue – that is why I mix Neocate with all of his Rice Milk to drink. I am going to ask our doc about Pediasure and see what he thinks! Thanks so much. Good luck with the Lactaid milk – wouldn’t that be so great!
