Hello and welcome.
I’m sorry you are going through this reflux nightmare. I remember the desperation and the feeling that I couldn’t possibly endure one more day of this misery. It really is difficult to care for reflux baby, but you’ve found the right place for support and advice and we will all do what we can to help you.
Like Heather mentioned you are probably using the compounded version of Prevacid. Many moms have had problems with compounded Prevacid because if it isn’t prepared correctly it loses it’s effectiveness. http://www.marci-kids.com does have some information on this. Also, his dose is probably not high enough. Most doctors under dose because they are not aware of the current research that shows babies metablolize these meds 3-4 times faster than adults and therefore they need higer doses given three times daily. My son was purely miserable and refusing all feedings until he was on the marci-kids dose. Once his dose was right things turned around and he did very well.
The sleep deprivation you are enduring is horrible. I went through it with my second baby who was never on proper meds for her reflux. She was up every 20 – 60 minutes all night long every night of her life until she outgrew the reflux monster at 9 months. I felt like I’d lose my mind.
When things were very bad with Myles (before proper meds) he would no longer take a bottle. It was a battle to get him to drink 2 ounces. I started spoon feeding him his breast milk or formula and he usually would take at least some. Maybe that’s something you can try until he’s feeling better.
Also a lot of use Mylanta Cherry Supreme before meals or at bedtime. It can give some temporary relief. I was giving Myles 2 -2.5 mls aroudn 4 times per day at 7 months and 17ish pounds.
I think the endo is a good idea. My children did not have one, but most of the moms here who’ve had them done for their babies have said the answers they got were very helpful and that the procedure itself was not that bad for the baby. I hope the test gives you answers and that your little guy gets the treatment he needs to feel better very soon.
Hang in there. I’m glad you found us and I hope you find the answers you need to help your little guy feel better very soon.
