Maybe I’m the only one that didn’t know about this, but our pediatrician suggested that I take fish oil capsules (omega 3) as I am breastfeeding Ben. He said that the omega 3 (DHA and EPA?) are really vital for a baby and that most of the formulas now add them. I told him that I thought breastmilk had this naturally anyway, so why do I need to add to it? He said (and I’m probably butchering this explanation) that the amount of the omega 3’s in your body build up over time, so that when you breastfeed your baby, she gets all that you have built up until then, but when you have another child that you are nursing, that child will only get the benefit of the omega 3’s you have build up since the first child stopped nursing. Anyway, he suggests starting children on them at 9 months and really believes that they can help with eczema, hay fever, etc.
Anyway, I started taking them today. Just thought I would pass on the info.
