Inactiveokay here is our deal…….Ryder is almost 11 months old and he is still basically getting up 2-3 times a night. Yes I know it’s not that bad -we have gone from getting up every hour to just 2x a night but still he is going to be 11 months on the 2nd!!!
So I am still nursing him. I believe his reflux is incheck with meds—-15mg solutabs- prevacid and 10mls of axid right before bed. he does still have food allergies issues with MSPI.
We always have put him down somewhat awake. The big thing is that I nurse him right before he goes down. So I do think he is having issues with associating nursing to going to bed.
he doesn’t nap that well. He was taking about a 1.5-2 hour nap in the morning and then only a 45min-1 hr nap in teh afternoon. So I have started waking him in the morning after a hour so I can get some sort of a nap in the afternoon( espcailly since I have to go to work in the evening
an cut hair!!)We have tried to let him CIO and sometimes he will go back to sleep but then some nights he will scream and then quiet down and just when we think he is sleep he will scream even LOUDER!—
so I generally will go in and nurse him ~ I have even gone in sometimes and just rocked him. He sometimes will go to sleeep.
I know he can go 6-7 hours without nursing he will go that long sometimes during the day. I did wonder if he was reverse cycling but even if I try to feed hime more he still wakes the same amount of time.
I have read Marc Weissbulths and no cry sleep solution and any other on line articles I have come across. i am just not sure what to do anymore.
Should I just let him cry at night and pray for the best???

InactiveHi Whitney,
You might try stopping the nighttime nursing. I know that when I stopped nursing both of my older boys at night, they started sleeping through the night. I would just get them back to sleep without nursing for a few nights and they adjusted and started sleeping through. We did cio with Isaac to get him to go to sleep on his own. I nursed him at night before he was completely ready to fall asleep, then we put him to bed sleepy but still awake. I had to have my husband do it because Isaac was way too attached to me and would scream when I went back in each time. It worked quickly once my husband did it.March 24, 2007 at 2:05 pm #28385Anonymous
InactiveI had the same issue with Brianna and her nighttime nursing. When she was about 7.5 months old, my mommy instinct just told me that she didn’t need to eat at night anymore…and that in the end it was causing more rucus than it was doing her good. So one night we decided to let her CIO…I will admit it was the hardest thing I ever did, but she did go back to sleep…and was her smiley self in the morning.
Now she still does ususally have about once that she wakes up in the middle of the night (probably becuase she sleeps on her side and has her arm underneath her, so I would imagine that her hand falls asleep.
) but she knows how to get to sleep on her own, so within a minute or two, she is asleep. Also, around 10-11 months, Brianna’s naps were just like your LO. it took me another month to finally realize that she wasn’t a bad napper, she just needed to be on one nap a day…could you try that? Brianna takes one nap that is anywhere from one hour (very rare) to three hours (also rare), with about a two hour average.

InactiveIt seems to be worse if I send my DH into to console him….do you think I should just let him cry? I think that’s what I am going to try tonight….. wish me luck!

Inactivewell after a hour of being put down Ryder is screaming right now—-I sent it DH and he checked to make sure he hadn’t pooped. Nada—-he has been crying for 30 mins now……it KILLS me. I want to go in and hold him but I feel like it just lets him think he can get away with it.
this sucks

InactiveHow about trying what “Good Night, Sleep Tight” recommends? You stay nearby on a chair next to the crib until he falls asleep. I haven’t read the book but I saw the author on Oprah and her plan seemed very reasonable to me.
I think Shelby just had success sleep training Justice by sitting in the room with him until he fell asleep. I think she said she would lay him back down everytime he got up, but she didn’t pick him up. That’s kind of what I did when my babies had sleep issues.
Supernanny does the same thing (although it’s usually with older children, I saw her do it with a one yr old once). She tells the parents to sit in the room where the child can see them, but not to interact. They are there to help the child feel safe since sleep issues are often due to separation anxiety.
I could never let my babies CIO while I was in another room either. Not that I’m opposed to it; I just couldn’t do it, so I can relate to you giving up after 35 minutes. I never made it passed 10 minutes! I hope you find something that works soon.

InactiveOKay so the book is called Good night sleep tight?
I am willing to try anything of course now he has a cold and slept worse then normal. He seemed like he couldn’y breathe so we are back to incling his bed and running the vaportizer UGHHH!!!

InactiveI did exactly what Christine said. I don’t nurse Justice at night anymore. When he wakes up I just lay him back down and he goes right back to sleep. I do wait a few minutes because sometimes he does go back to sleep on his own. We are down to him waking once a night and me having to just lay him back down. You could try laying him back down and then rubbing his lower back. A massage therapist told me that when you rub the lower back in large circles it induces sleep. After a few days of that maybe just put your hand on his back and then just stand there and then maybe the waking will stop. I’m not an expert, but I think maybe first cutting out the nursing and not giving in could help. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

InactiveWhitney,
Yes, the book is called, “Good Night, Sleep Tight.” That’s too bad that he has a cold now. It’s always something with these babies, isn’t it?
I hope his cold passes soon and you have some success with sleep training soon.Shelby,
That’s great news that he’s up only once a night now and going back down pretty easily!!!!
Wow! What a change. You must be feeling great now that you are getting some sleep.March 26, 2007 at 3:52 pm #28548Anonymous
InactiveI think I will try the putting him back down and rubbing his back after he gets over this cold…..
How long did it take to work for you? I wouldn’t even mind if he got up once though I would prefer if he slept thru the night!!

InactiveHe isn’t even napping at all during the day either. The past 3 days he has taken a 45 min nap then one more 45 min nap…… I am at the end of my rope. I really can’t take it any longer. I am not sure what to do anymore.
