I just ordered a pack of the level 4’s from Ebay, I’ve seen them in the standard size at Target, but we use the wide, and that’s the only place I could find them. I’m going to try those and see how that goes…
Our problem is that we usually use the Y-cuts, but she can’t get anything out of them the way they come in the pack, so I have to cut the “Y” larger for them to work for her, even with just 1 tablespoon of cereal in the bottle. I think the original pack we bought were cut larger than the other couple of packs, and they just don’t work for her. Those nipples can be very fickle, so I think half the time when I cut them, if it’s not just perfectly right, so it just collapses in on itself and she still can’t get anything out of it. I tried giving her just plain non-thickened formula in the level 2’s and level 3’s, but that doesn’t seem to work well either. It seems they’re ok at first, but then they may flow too fast for her after 4 or 5 ounces. I wasn’t sure if she just didn’t like the formula or if it’s coming out too fast that makes her keep stopping and starting again (not the normal pause, she pulls away, then I offer it back to her & she takes it again), but it seems like she’s almost got too much in her mouth. Maybe I’ll try the level 1 with straight formula and see how that goes? If that doesn’t work, then I’m going to try a level 1 nipple & cross-cut it myself and see how that works. I really don’t want to buy any more nipples, but I know it’s my destiny to do so!! Hopefully with my next baby I’ll either be able to breast feed or use simple, plain bottles with plain “variable flow” nipples instead of these monsters!!
This is ridiculous…if anyone had told me how much time, money, and thought I’d be putting into nipples at this point, I would have thought they were crazy!! I would just keep the ones we have now, but they’re so huge now from all the wear, I’m afraid that they’re going to really tear and she could swallow a piece, and also with just 1 tablespoon added, they’ll just be too big.
