I am confused. If I am having Prevacid compounded at a pharmacy (Yes I feel pretty comfortable with how they are compounding it) then do I still need to space the Mylanta 3 to 4 hours away from the Prevacid dose? I have been giving the prevacid and mylanta together and it has seemed to make a difference. But then maybe its just the Mylanta. I did this because I noticed that Dr. Phillips is giving mylanta with the Zegerid.

Let me hear what you all have to say.

you can give mylanta at any time with regards to a compound.

Dr Phillps uses mylanta for the 40 mg packets of zegerid, because they dont have enough buffer in them, and mylanta acts as a buffer preventing the drug from being degraded in the stomach.

Could it be that the Mylanta is making the Prevacid work better because it is also acting as a better buffer?

hmm…only if your pharmacy didnt get the buffer part right…you know, the 16.8% sodium bicarb. im pretty sure.

You know that could be the case. I told them to mix it with 16.8 sb but they said that they mix it and then test the ph level. Uggghhh I can’t stand dealing with these pharmacies that won’t listen.
