InactiveHmmm, I just thought of something. Sarah has been kind of fussy the past 3 or 4 days. I know she’s cutting her other top tooth and usually orajel or a squirt of mylanta will do the trick. (and tylenol too). Anyway, I noticed a few days ago that she had bad breath. It was the first time I have ever noticed it and frankly I was a little grossed out. I have now been brushing her 5 teeth after every meal to try to help. THEN it dawned on me that some of you have talked about “acid breath” before. How would I know the difference between bad breath and acid breath?? Is this what it would be? Maybe I need to slightly UP her dosage of Zegerid (as I’ve done before when teething) b/c this top tooth is being stubborn? Any ideas?
Thanks!

InactiveTrace has bad breath from his formula all the time, but its definitely different than acid breath. acid breath smells kind of sour.

InactiveMy children often get bad breath when they have a cold or sinus infection, especially if the nose is stuffed up.

InactiveYou know, right before Bryce had his tubes put in his ears he got bad breath too. As soon as the tubes were put in it was gone, so I’m pretty sure it had to do with the fluid in his ears/sinuses.

Inactivehey amy, i used to worry about that..and i put a post up once about it. i think you would know if it was acid breath… it smells different than just bad breath.. like natalia said.. kinda acidy/sour. i figured out that when shane has bad breath its usually related to some kind of post nasal drip! so, like heather said it could be some kind of fluid floating around somewhere… or it could be just because she is getting older! i know that happens when they close to one( and oh my gosh, tomorrow is her birthday!! congratulations!)

InactiveWell, since this is the first time I’ve noticed bad breath, I’m not sure I would know the difference between acid breath and just bad breath?? She doesn’t appear to be sick…no drainage and what I thought was fussiness from a possible ear infection a few days ago is just her tooth (I’m pretty sure…the gum is now bleeding a little bit where it’s trying to cut through) Hmmm. It could just be an age thing too…Thanks for your input everyone!

InactiveAmy, to me the acid-breath smells pretty much like adult puke, if that helps…

InactiveThanks Heather…that definitely helps! I think it must be just bad breath because it didn’t smell like puke.

InactiveAlana also gets bad breath when she has a snuffly nose (or daycare feeds her something that has garlic in it
). The acid breath does smell like puke! Yuk.April 24, 2007 at 8:22 pm #31380Anonymous
InactiveNow that you mention it, Dagney’s had bad breath for a while too…I don’t mean to hijack your post, Amy, but Dagney’s been making the throat-clearing noises for some time now, and she’s had bad breath for a while too. She’s always spit up a lot, and it’s definitely sour smelling. Does that mean I need to up her meds? She’s already on 30 mg/day of prevacid, I know my doc won’t go any higher! She doesn’t seem to be in pain, but now that I think about it, she’s gone back to 1/2 hour naps during the day for the most part, and she usually wakes up kind of upset (her nights are still good, she’s exhausted)! Now that I think of it, she’s been spitting up a lot more since she started on solids, but I didn’t really put it all together until now! It’s too late to turn back on the solids, she loves her food too much–but is there anything else I can do? I guess I can try giving her some Mylanta before naps and see how that goes…does anyone have any suggestions? I do notice she spits up the orange veggies more than the green, could that be something??
UGH! WHY?? I thought we’d turned the corner!!! To be honest, I had noticed it all a while ago, but I’ve been in denial not wanting to admit it could be bothering her again!! She’s been trying to cut a couple of more teeth for a while now, but still just has those 2 front bottom. The ones on either side of them have looked like they were going to come in at least for the last month, so I’m sure that doesn’t help either!!
Thanks in advance…and I hope Sarah’s doing well, I love that new picture of her! I need to update Dagney’s too.

InactiveAdriana has bad breath and I can’t tell if its acidy eaither. I smell it mostly when she is sleeping or just wakes up.
Denise, do you think that one of her foods has caused the reflux flare? I think fruits cause problems for Adriana, or it just might be the teething. I can never tell what the heck is going on with her.
