InactiveHi all,
My son did great on breastfeeding alone and started having problems 9 days after we fed him rice cereal at 4 1/2 months. He first had blood in his stool so I eliminated dairy from my diet and stopped feeding cereal. 1 week after the dairy was eliminated, he got fussy and began having sleeping problems, continuing to have blood in the stool (small flecks). So, we then eliminated soy. He was great for about 1 week after that and then got crabby again. Now, I have gone to the TED diet (after feeding 2 weeks Alimentum) and he seems to be doing great (except for last night). I have been reading and I can’t seem to decide what is going on with him. Do FPIES babies ever have symptoms as “mild” as this. Some FPIES stuff I read sounded pretty bad!

Inactiveits not necessarily FPIES. lots of reflux babies have tons of food intolerances. for example, MSPI, MFPI, just regular “allergies”…etc…but i am glad he is doing better on TED. alimentum never helped my son as it has milk proteins. for the future, if something were to ever happen and you couldnt breastfeed, there is neocate. its an amino acid based formula for babies that are milk/soy protein intolerant. you can go to neocate.com and read about it. good luck!

InactiveI am sure there are different levels of FPIES. It is really hard to find a lot of information about it though since it is not very common. Unfortunately in Addy’s situation, she could not be breastfed after me being on TED and down to eating only certain veggies, fruits and plain chicken ONLY. After being put on Neocate at 7 months, she took some time but her system recovered and she began having “normal” bm’s and all other symptoms went away (after several months). Currently she can tolerate Neocate, organic Cheerios, a specific type of water (strange, I know.).
If he is doing great now, I wouldn’t change a thing. Blood in the stool can be a sign of intolerances or allergies and like Natalia said, those are both very common in reflux babies and kids. Good luck!!!

InactiveFrom what I understand their are varying levels, but like Tracy and Natalia said, it seems more likely that there is a intolerance or allergy….
my dd is FPIES, and can only do neocate so far….and only in the past month have her BMs been normal..
