InactiveHI EVERYONE!!
First of all I will start with the question for those of you that might skim the rest and miss it
…How soon did you start putting stuffed animals in the crib with your babies? Sarah has recently become fond of a stuffed bulldog my brother got her for Christmas. She barks at it (well, it sounds more like “ro ro ro”) and then she goes and snuggles with it and even almost uses it as a pillow. She currently sleeps with 3 small blankies but nothing as large as a stuffed animal. Any thoughts? Sleep with it, or no?
Well, our house situation has really turned out to be a blessing. The sale of my house is BACK on and the closing dates have all been pushed back. We were supposed to close on our house May 3rd, and would have to live with family for 2 weeks until we could move into the new house on May 15th. Now, the NEW closing date for our house is May 30th and we can move STRAIGHT into the new house! YAY!!!!
Not only do we avoid living with family but school will be OUT and baseball will be OVER and we’ll have the TIME to move! Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sarah has ANOTHER ear infection. I’m convinced it is the same ear infection she has had for months that just keeps returning.
Her ENT appointment isn’t until May 11th..go figure. I took her to the ER clinic after school because I really can’t find the time to take off work. (her regular ped. is 25 minutes away and closes at 4…not really convenient for a school teacher). The ER clinic is 2 minutes away and we were home in an hour! MUCH easier…SAME co pay! It took me a year to figure it out, but I now KNOW that when her sleep is disrupted (wakes up crying) or she cries when you put her down for naps that she is either teething or has an ear infection. I LOVE that there are things I can figure out about her…the rest is still a guessing game.
Just wanted to update everyone. Thanks for reading!

InactiveThe picture is too cute! Kaelyn was close to 2 when we started letting her sleep with a stuffed animal. It was at the same time that we switched her to her “big girl bed”.
Sorry to hear about her ear infection. We’ve had the same situation with Alex and sinus infections. I know what you mean about teaching and doctor’s appointments. You hate to have to take a half day just for a quick visit to the doctor.
Good news on the house!

InactiveSorry to hear about Sarah’s ear infection, it is so rough on these little ones. Taylor got her tubes last Monday and so far so good, her one ear is a little red but no infection!!! YEAH!!! Anyways, in regards to the stuffed animal, Alexis would not go to sleep without her Monkey named Mikey starting at 15 months, then as she got older 2 years old I swear she had all of her stuffed animals in her crib. I’ll have to find the picture of her and post it!

Inactivehey amy, thats great about the house.. you must feel soo much more relaxed and relieved. with the stuffed animals.. i dont know from experience but i think i would do it.. shane has a blanky and he always raps his FACE up in it..and is able to unrap himself! its really scary, but i cant take the blanky away or he wont go to sleep! but one reason why you might want to hold of on the animals (now that i think about it) is that they get very dusty and they are known to be allergenic .. i think that i have that right.. maybe someone might now some more on that.

InactiveHi Amy. Thanks for the update- Great news about the house, I’m sure that takes a lot of the stress off. About the stuffed animal- Hailey’s had one in her crib since she was about 9-10 months old. She only recently got attached to it though and uses it kind of like a pillow. Sarah’s slept with one since she’s been a year old. I was always more afraid of blankets because of the smothering, but figured in both cases that as long as they could take them off and move themselves voluntarily if they can’t breathe well then it was fine. I do sleep close to Hailey though, and had a video monitor for Sarah, so I could generally tell if there would be a problem. About the ear infection, can you try to get a cancellation for the ENT? Sorry she’s having such a hard time with them. The tubes have really helped Hailey that way.

InactiveAmy,
I think Sarah would be fine with the stuffed animal at this age. Bryce has had a stuffed dog that he’s slept with for quite awhile. In my opinion, once they’re old enough to roll over and lift their head well, they should be fine with things like that. That’s awesome news about your house situation! Sometimes when you think things are going bad they end up being for the best! Sounds like everything worked perfectly.

Good luck with the ear infections. Those things are so miserable. I’m sorry you have to wait so long for the appointment! Maybe if you call the ENT and let them know how miserable she is they’ll squeeze her in sooner?

InactiveGood Point, Lauren about the dust!
We let the boys have their stuffed animals at night, but I always wash them once a week in hot water with their sheets, etc.. to escape the extra dust. It did cause a lot of problems for Dylan before we knew to do this as he has a dust allergy, so for a while we took them all away. Now he can have the ones I wash……

InactiveAmy,
so glad that things are even better now with the sale of your house now that the closing dates have been switched.
What a relief that must be. Brianna has slept with stuffed animals in her crib (she has two that she likes) since probably 11-12 months. I think one year is fine for Sarah. sorry to hear about the ear infection, but hopefully the ENT can help ya’ll out.May 1, 2007 at 2:21 pm #31966Anonymous
InactiveThat’s great news about your house. See, sometimes when things seem to fall apart it’s because the good Lord has something better in mind for you.

I think she’d be fine with her little doggie in bed. At her age I can’t see how she’d smother herself with it. I’d wash it or vacuum it regularily and if at all possible see if you can find a duplicate because if she gets overly attached to it and you lose it one day it could become really miserable around your house at bedtime, kwim? If you can’t find a duplicate, never take it out of the crib!

Sorry about her ear infection. Ugg… I just took Myles for his 18 mos check up and he had a fever and ear infection. I should have known, he’s been irritable, but I thought he was cutting molars.
I hope Sarah’s feeling better soon. Good luck with your move!

InactiveOh, I hope you sent that picture to your brother. It would probably make him very happy!

InactiveHey Amy, just wanted to chime in on the congrats about your house. That’s so great that it all worked out, and even better than the original plan! Wonderful news.
I agree with Heather about the animal. I think once they can roll around, pick head up, move, etc. that an animal would be fine. You may just find that she plays with it instead of sleeping though… hear a few “ro ro ro’s” from her crib!
