Alexis loves horses and want to ride them all the time! What age could I start her with lessons? Some places say they have to be at least 6 years old but other say they can be younger. since she is only We can find a private instructor but DH thinks she still is a little too young, she’s be 3 this Saturday. He also doesn’t want to pay the price especially if she truly is too young to learn how to properly ride or end up being too scared! She enjoys them so much and is really fearless when it comes to horses, I can’t even hold on to her, she has me help her on the saddle and then she just holds on herself. What do you think? but, if she’s keen and wears a helmet and safety stuff and has an old and placid horse etc then I would probably let her (if it where Alana). At least with lessons she will learn how to ride properly and responsibly and therefore reduce the risk of falls etc.
Also, you might have a future Olympian on your hands….you know you have to start them young
I think a responsible instructor would be able to tell you if she is mature enough, so I’d probably look for someone reputable and then ask their opinion.
A friend of mine owns horses. She’s really excited about the idea of having Kaelyn ride one of her horses (an older, gentle one), but she says she wouldn’t be comfortable doing it until next summer. Kaelyn will be four then. Just one person’s opinion, of course.
