Inactivedo you have any refills left on the 20 mg packs? if so i would go with that idea.
my son was requiring 60 mg of the 40 mg packs…and we were refilling it twice a month! that was $124 times two! it was just too much for us….
and if worse comes to worse…always remember you can go to prevacid capsules and mix them with caracream (the original zegerid)…which you would order from marci-kids.com.

InactiveHi Everyone,
I am new here… I just finished reading both threads on Zegerid… that is what we started my daugther on she is 13 months old. She has been on it for about a month and a half. So I had read a lot online about it… but until today I did not know about the Marci-Kids site… wow… I also did not know a lot of the stuff that I just read.
So here is my question now… I think she is doing well on it. Her reflux seems to be different than most kids. Her biggest symptoms until now have been the gurgling sound and she just chokes out of the blue (not necesarily when eating). She also turns her head like an own when she sleeps. 😉 She does the winning all night a lot as well… and lately does the hard swallowing and funny face look like she feels the heartburn. And ends up with hiccups. In the whole process they sent us to have a swallow study done and we found she has silent aspiration (with thin liquids) so we do not know if the choking is due to reflux or due to liquid in her lungs from aspirating.
So here is my question… We are doing 1/4 a pack of 40mg 2xday. But he (GI) never told us to do a buffer? The way we do it based on the GI instructions and what is on the pack is… 1/4 of the pack mixed in 3 -5 ml of water. Followed up by 3-5ml or so of water… so now I dont know… does this seem like a small dose? and two, what about the buffer? would that be the water? (instead of the mylanta?)
I know no one here is a doctor!! I am looking for user advise!!
Thanks for any thoughts!!!

buffer refers to sodium bicarobonate-baking soda. there isnt enough buffer in the 40 mg packs to prevent disintergration in the stomach once it reaches the acid.
if you are giving less than 3.5 ml at a time, you need to add equal parts mylanta cherry supreme (the one with the calcium) or tums dissolvables. these act as buffers.
you should be mixing one 40 mg packet with 6.5 ml of water to make a 4mg/ml concentration.
yes that seems like a very low dose. but if it works for your daughters pain, then great.
there is a calculator on the marci-kids site you can use.
if you have any more questions feel free to email marci-kids as they are basically the creators of zegerid, particularly dr phillips. they work with zegerid and babies on a daily basis.
