InactiveSeth has been going pee pee at daycare for the past week
in the potty but he is going standing up since they have the child sized toilet in the classroom’s bathroom. I was surprised at this since I thought even boys learned first sitting down??? We have the small training potty at home that he will sit on to go.. Will this be too confusing? He did go poop (or almost) on the potty at home this morning but it ended up on the floor.
I did not even know he was in there!!! I am so proud of him but not sure if I am ready for this or not!!! May 7, 2007 at 1:08 pm #32489Anonymous
InactiveThat’s great Tiffany! Brodie won’t even sit on a potty with his diaper off, I think he has done it twice!!
The other day he pulled his diaper off and pooped on the hard wood floor! He pees standing up in the tub all the time, but has some deathly fear about sitting on the potty. I bought the books, the dvd’s, the Elmo potty doll, nothing is working. When I ask him if wants to go on the potty, he says, later, when I get older!! I said you already are old enough. Anyhow, I wondered the same thing about it being confusing with the standing and sitting for peeing. If he’s standing that’s great, I wouldn’t even bother with sitting. Maybe get a step stool in your bathroom so he’ll be high enough to pee into the toilet at home. Brodie is so smart and capable, it is frustrating to not achieve this milestone. I tried bribing him and everything!!!!! You should be very proud of Seth!!!May 7, 2007 at 1:28 pm #32492Anonymous

LOL, Robin!!! How do you keep a straight face when he says “Later, when I am older!”….I would be hysterical over that

Tiffany,
Dylan goes either sitting or standing…. and doesn’t seem to have been too confused in the learning process. I think it will just depend on what potty you have at the time. I would say, though, if he likes the big potty, then train him soley on that! I rarely used the little potty and it was AWFUL to have to clean that thing! I would have rather changed a diaper. So, we mostly did big potty with a seat that went on top. We got Dylan this little step stool so he could get up there.
Good Luck! You are so much further ahead than we were at that age!

InactiveThanks ladies, I really have to give the daycare credit. Seth just moved up to the older twos room at school (he is the youngest in there now) and I really believe watching the older kids go is what made it click for him. We have not been working on it at home at all. I honestly wasn’t even going to start until the summer but I feel like I have to now to try to be consistent especially since he tried this morning at home by himself. The daycare can be a little agressive with the milestone things sometimes IMHO but I guess this time it may work in our favor.
Robin, that is funny about Brodie saying he will go when he is older. Can he watch DH go? Maybe standing up would work for him too if he is afraid to sit? I have heard that they have to be ready or it is pointless so maybe that is his way of letting you know it is not time yet!!
Ann Marie, I agree about cleaning out the potty. I thought I was going to gag cleaning up the floor this morning!!!

InactiveCarson sees his big brothers go and he loves to pee. He doesn’t tell me when he has to go, but before bath or anytime he is naked (a lot!!) he will sit and usually go. Upstairs where our bedrooms are – and where he takes a bath – we have a potty chair. Main level where we have the playroom/livingroom/kitchen we have a seat that attaches to our toilet – easy clean up!! He doesn’t seem to mind which he goes on. He loves to stand after watching the big brothers stand.
This is horrible- but when I was potty training our 2nd – it was summer. I would put cheerios in the lawn and let him go on the cheerios. The neighbors probably thought I was cracked!!
After he did this a few times I would put a few cheerios in the toilet and he tried to hit the cheerios. I also had a *PottyTreatBucket* on the back of the toilet and he got a treat if he went in the toilet. We eventually did a star system on a piece of paper and after so many stars he would get a special something from the store. Oh, the things moms do! Anything to get away from the dirty diapers!
