my 6 mon. old is doing ok with his reflux well he still spits up A LOT but he is gaining weight, anyways i have a question does he has to burp everytime he eats? he doesnot do it mostly when he is going to bed or when he eats at 3 in the morning, he is taking the enfamil A.R. because he doesnot have any symptons besides the spitting up but since he does spit up sometimes i put some cereal in the formula even though it already has rice starch on it anyways can it be that the cause of him not to burp? some people say that at this age babies star burping on their on and its ok if they dont burp. its that tue?
I stopped burping Alana sometime a little earlier than six months. It was after a midwife told me that in Europe they don’t birp the babies at all (and think its mighty strange we go around slapping our little ones on the back). I find if she needs to birp she works it up on her own. Of course she wasn’t a spitter.
Therese, you are so funny! I have also heard that in other countries they don’t burp their babies at all and they think we are strange for doing so. I didn’t worry about it too much even when my boys were young.
I can’t get Cooper to burp most of the time these days. He usually burps on his own and 1 or 2 after he has eaten, which of course still brings back formula and such, but he arches so bad when we try to burp him that we have almost given up. I try usually at the end but only for a minute or 2 depending on how much he is arching or crying, b/c in the long run that is more harmful than him not being burped in my opinion.
