InactiveGo with what your bub wants. They know what is best. Alana was up to about 35-40 ounces a day at one stage (around 6 months). Now I’m lucky to get 18 ounces a day into her
I also wouldn’t worry to much about the solids at this stage, as long as he is taking the spoon and using his facial and tongue muscles and practicing eating, he is doing his job well. Alana was a slow started to solids, but now she can’t get enough of them.

InactiveIt sounds like he’s doing fine. He’s taking a nice amount of formula, and he’s trying solids. He’s only six months old, and so it’s not important that he’s having a full diet of solids. The American and Candadian pediatric societies as well as the WHO do not recommend even introducing solids until 6 months, so you’re certainly not “behind” in any way. I would just follow your son’s lead and introduce solids slowly. Let him take as much or as little as he wants, and don’t stress about “how much”. It’s really just a learning process at this point to get him used to different tastes and textures, and for them to start to like the idea of eating. Breast milk or formula should be the primary source of nutrition up until a year (or more?) anyhow, so I wouldn’t worry about it at all at this point. Sometimes refluxers can be slower to get the hang of solids, but even then, most of them do get the hang of things on their own. I would try not to worry too much about what other people tell you to do, especially when it comes to comparing refluxers and non-refluxers. In general, all kids follow their own rules, so as long as he doesn’t seem like he’s in pain and is taking his formula well, I’d just continue going slowly with whatever you’re doing.

InactiveI used to babysit a little boy who at a year (!) was still eating every two hours all day long! He slept through the night though. Babies are all different. I don’t think he’s eating too often at all. If that’s what his body needs, that’s what he’s going to insist upon. And I wouldn’t worry about pushing the solids yet. It’s best to take things slowly with reflux babies since their systems are so sensitive. ndrose2007-5-15 14:32:10

InactiveSounds fine to me. At that stage babies are taking the largest amounts of formula, up to 40 oz/day and as I am doing small frequent feeds with my 3 month old, I think you are probably on the right track. Cooper is taking about 36 oz of formula/day now that we have changed his schedule, was at 30, but he is a big boy for his age to have reflux, so I just go with what he wants. If your little one is happy and gaining wt, then I would stick with what you are doing.

InactiveI think that sounds like a good amount. I worry because I can only get 4-5 ounces every 3.5 hours into Adriana. I worry that it isn’t enough.
