InactiveWe delt with reflux and colic 4 years ago, but we are now just finding out that Adam’s reflux and other issues were due to lyme disease, passed to him from me (Mom-during pregnancy). I didn’t know I had lyme disease. I’ve never had a tick bite that I know of. Here are some links if anyone is interested. Many of them are also related to autism. My other child is high-functioning autistic, and also has lyme disease.

May 18, 2007 at 12:32 pm #33681Inactivei’ve wondered about it because of the trouble i have with fibromyalgia. i know i was bit by a tick, but it was so many years ago that i am not sure it is relevant.
May 18, 2007 at 12:33 pm #33682InactiveA friend of mine moved here from CT, and her daughter is being evaluated for autism. She has many issues, including white matter on the brain, which I’ve heard is also lyme-related. I recommended she get tested for lyme. Most doctors are not knowledgeable (except maybe in CT). I would encourage everyone to do a lot of research, and find the right doctor. We are actually working with a chiropractor who does kinesiology, which I’ver heard may be the best treatment for lyme.
Most articles I’ve found say that it is only from a tick bite, but the new research if finding that there are numerous ways to get lyme.

I may have contracted lyme from her, and passed it on to my children (she lives in WI, a state that has high incidence of lyme). I have issues with chronic fatigue, gluten intollerance, IBS, etc……… our whole family is on a gluten free/casein free and dye free diet, and it has helped a lot!!!!
I had numerous flea bites in Missouri after we bought a flea infested house. I had a lot of strange symptoms after that, such as night sweats, dizziness, easy bruising, and a lot of other celiac-type symptoms. I probably already had lyme from my mother, and was re-infected with the flea bites.

May 18, 2007 at 12:53 pm #33689Inactivemary—-can the symptoms of lyme wax and wane over the years? i am seeing a neurologist next week and i am going to ask him about lyme—-a number of people on the celiac board have been diagnosed with lyme disease and have told me to ask the doctor to use the IgeneX testing. some of them do not have celiac, but have a definite gluten intolerance. i wonder if it could have been what activated the celiac gene in some people?
May 18, 2007 at 1:22 pm #33697InactiveYes, I believe the symptoms can come and go. I’ve noticed that for myself. Lots of symptoms about 10 years ago. Mild or no symptoms for years, and celiac symptoms that were triggered during my last pregnancy. I’ve heard the IgeneX testing is the one to do for lyme. I do not officially have celiac, but I have severe gluten intollerance (even though I have the lesser of the sensitive genes for gluten sensitivity). I think lyme is probably responsible for activating many of the neuro-degenerative diseases, auto-immune disease, and unlimited other health problems, including cronic ear infections in children.
