InactiveBryce will be 18 months old in a couple of weeks and our OT from EI suggested we take him to the play group at their center.
Has anyone taken their child to this? Did it seem to help them?
Our OT said it would probably help Bryce mostly speech wise since he’s doing really well socially. I guess they also incorporate activities for each child depending on where they are developmentally. It might be a little tricky for us to get him to it as we only have one car and my husband oftentimes works on Fridays when the playgroup is, but I think we’ll be able to make to some.
Anyway, I was just wondering what others’ experiences were with it.
Thanks!

InactiveIsaac goes to group therapy which I think is the same thing that you are talking about. I think it has been so good for him. It is also nice for him to be around other kids his age that also are delayed. At Isaac’s group they have a therapist for each child so they get lots of special attention and they basically just play alot and eat. We get to watch him in a room with the special mirrors. I would totally reccomend it! I have also gotten to know other moms in the group and they are so caring. We all understand how hard it is sometimes and they are all so encouraging-like when Isaac gained weight finally they were all so excited

InactiveJust a thought Heather but have you asked about bussing? I work in Early Childhood Special Ed and we bus kiddos, our EI program busses as well. Maybe that may help get you and Bryce there. I hope you can take him, there are so many benefits! Good Luck

InactiveI’ve taken both the kids to the EI playgroups here. I’m in Canada so it’s different, but it’s fun for the kids and it’s free. Hope that you find something good for Bryce.

InactiveHeather, I’m a speech pathologist and I’ve worked in a program where kids were bussed to and from the group sessions. It was TONS of fun for the kids and I do completely agree with your OT…Speech wise it’s great b/c they get to communicate with other kids and it’s amazing how helpful it is for them. I hope you’ll have the chance to experience it first hand
