OMG! Again, you sound so much like me. Even down to the mucousy green diapers or the runny yellow ones or the stains on the diaper and nothing more… the horrid feedings, all of it. I KNOW what you feel like ,and I know how hard it can be to just pick up that baby and try again, when it seems like there are other “easy” answers out there like formula and bottle feeding. I considered them all, believe me, and you should totally do what you need to do to survive. There was a time when Ben even started totally refusing to eat, altogether, and I would try to do it by hanging my breast over him while he was in the bouncy seat.. or nursing him while holding him upright in front of me while standing … a sorry sight to see, let me tell you.
In all honesty, after doing the TED for as long as I have (and now it’s mostly a MSPI diet, as I’ve added most back in), I don’t even know if the diet helped Ben. Because of my OAL and his reflux, much of his discomfort went away as he got older. Not what you want to hear, I’m sure, but it just took him getting older, his body and digestive system maturing, etc. I know you are trying to do everything and anything to help your little one, but if you don’t see a definite improvement in 2-3 weeks on the TED, well… if I could do it all over again, let’s just say I would have quit the diet long ago. The gurgling in his belly stopped at around 3 1/2-4 months and that’s also when his “colic” in the evenings subsided as well. I don’t think anything but plain old age had a hand in that. This is also about the time that his bowel movements got a bit more “normal.” This was all about 2 months after I had been on the TED, so if the diet was helping, it should have done a bit more before then, right??
My daughter also had reflux, not nearly as severe as Ben’s, but I was working then, so I pumped BM bottles for her, and nursed her in the mornings and at night. I know, without a doubt, that the milk she got from those bottles kept her weight up. She struggled so much at the breast that she wasn’t gaining weight well. And she still struggled with the bottles, but not quite as much. That being said… she was NEVER properly medicated and her weight was a constant issue. Ben also struggled at the breast, but gained weight like a sumo wrestler.. so going to a bottle for him just didn’t make as much sense.. not to mention he wouldn’t take one anyway.
Anyway.. I’ve totally rambled here, but I’ve said all I’ve said above to say…. HANG IN THERE. I swear it gets better. Take it day at a time and, while it seems totally impossible at times, try your best to enjoy your baby….
