InactiveOK – so we got the prevacid solutabs yesterday. My DD totally freaked out while trying to wait 30 minutes to eat. It was to the point that she just could not calm down and was choking/spitting/crying when I finally latched her on. I have tried warm bath and outside walk with the same results. I guess if you wet this baby’s whistle, you can’t stop there. What should I do??

Inactivesome people syringe a dissolved solutab in the mouth while baby is still sleeping….sometimes that works.
otherwise, you have to try to remember what time she ate at and try to time it. if you know she will be hungry around 2, give it at 1:30. and you have up until 60 mintues after the med to eat a full meal, so its fine if you go past the 30.
i am having the opposite problem. my son is not much of an eater. we are doing capsules at the moment and i cant get him to eat anything within an hour of administering the med

so its not even being effective for him and now his reflux is flairing up

InactiveDar,
That’s what I used to do…..sneak the dissolved solutab into Myles’ mouth while he was sleeping, stick the nuk in (a finger would work too) and he’d suck and swallow and go back to sleep. Then I’d wake him and feed him 30 minutes later. It’s tricky but this worked for us for a very long time. As he got older it got easier because his schedule became more predictable and I’d know when he was going to be hungry so I’d give him the solutab 30 minutes before he was due to eat.
Natalia,
I’m sorry to hear Trace is not eating well and his reflux is flaring.
I hope he starts eating better soon.May 31, 2007 at 1:48 pm #35129Anonymous
InactiveDon’t know if you have tried this yet but I have found success with this:
I put my little in a baby carrier for that 30 min and I use a pacifier so she is getting the sucking sensation. She is also close to you while moving around and getting to look at the world–

InactiveI also give Carson his first Prilosec (we use Prilosec not prevacid) in the AM when he is sleeping – I let him sleep oh, 15 minutes more and then wake him and he eats breakfast 15 minutes after that – for a total of 30 minutes. He takes the evening one just fine – his brothers do this little hoochie dance for him and he loves the dance – and takes his meds so they will dance for him!
Oatmeal!!! Carson is not allergic to oatmeal. I don’t think he is intolerant like he is to other foods – because he only gets tummy troubles for maybe 3 hours – no rash, no diareah, etc. Our specialist thinks that oatmeal is TOO BULKY for Carson as his little insides are so little. He said that bulky foods are just uncomfortable for some little ones to digest. He does fine with Oatmeal Cookies. Give him a bowl of oatmeal in the morning and he will groan and cry for hours.

brenda-how do you do this with an almost 2 year old? doesnt he wake up? do you do it with applesauce?

InactiveNatalia: Carson has a hard time with applesauce – gags right away – I think it is stringy?? So, with our ped gi specialist’s approval, I make a tiny bit of rice cereal and scoop up a *bite* on a baby spoon. I then sprinkle the 14 beads on the rice cereal and push them into the cereal just a bit. I ever-so-quietly!! go into his room and take out his nuk and rub it on his lips and he opens right up and takes the bite! I usually have a bottle with water and give him a few drinks and then tick the nuk back in and wait about 10-15 minutes and uncover him and make a racket or two and he wakes up. We go down and make an egg or have his rice crispies and eat breakfast! For us, this works great!
In the evening I just say – we have to take your medicine – Jeremy will do the hoochie dance if you take your medicine! And he opens right up and takes it – I then give him a drink out of a glass.

InactiveNot sure what everyone else has said, but I say ppi. I will NEVER again try an h2blocker. They have never worked for either of my boys and I will never again wait it out.
