InactiveMy son is taking four 6 1/2 oz bottles a day , along with 1 1/2 tbsp oatmeal with 1/2 fruit in the am, and 1 stage 1 veggie ( sometimes with 1 tsp rice cereal added) in the afternoon. I was doing a dream feed so that ben would have 5 bottles, but have since stopped with the addition of the solids.
My main question is… is this enough formula? Im really kinda confused by all of this starting solids stuff… should the solids be in addition to, or do we cut down the formula a bit as he takes solids? when do i move from 2 feedings of solids a day to 3?
thanks so much in advance!

Inactivefirst off, how old is your baby? breastmilk.formula should be the main source of nutrition in the first year. babies dont “need” solids at all in the first year…they are more for practice.
it really doensnt have to be so complicated and planned out. basically, i feed my son when he is hungry. have you ever heard about the baby led approach to solids? babies benefit a lot from self feeding, they can control the amount of food that they take in. babies know how to self regulate food intake.
you could skip baby jars all together and it’ll be less stress on you
well it was for me anyway

Inactiveoh sorry!
My son is 7 months old. I generally dont feed him solids and a bottle at the same time , with the exception of breakfast , where he gets the remainder of his formula ( i mix formula in his cereal). He does very well with swallowing and seems to like solids. Ben never really get fussy with hunger. He can awake in the morning after 10-12 hrs of sleep and not act as if he is hungry, but he eats without problem. Im afraid that if i try to “follow his cues” that he wont get enough…
any help or suggestions are appreiciated!

InactiveThat sounds like a reasoable amount to me. My babies never took more than 25 ounces a day, and they averaged about 20 ounces per day plus a small amount of solids like you are giving. He’ll let you know if it’s not enough.
And if his weight gain is adequate he’s getting enough, so try not to worry. I know it’s hard. I used to write down every ounce my babies drank and fret over whether it was enough or not.

InactiveIt sounds like a good amount to me as well. I would keep going with that for a little while. I also started letting Alana have some finger foods about that age. She really enjoyed those. I would go by wet diapers and weight gain as well.

InactiveI think that sounds like a good amount to me…as long as he is wetting diapers and gaining weight, I wouldn’t worry too much.
