Inactiveclaire how are things now?
When we were in the hospital last week if Maggie spits up the medication within 20 minutes they would redose so that is what we follow at home.

InactiveArrrrrrrrg,
Today was a NIGHTMARE!!! Every feed was a struggle and I don’t know why
Well, scratch that, I only waited 15 minutes with her prevacid today because she was screaming bloody murder. Hmmmm, these decisions I make everyday, air in belly, prevacid not timed right……I lose either way
I went ahead and redosed her but our current ped doesn’t agree with that and says not to redose. Whatever. She did fine after I redosed so there you go!
Kate’s reflux is sooooooooo much worse today but I’m chalking it up to her fighting off this UTI. Sorry, that was more background then you asked for but thanks for caring to ask anyhow. That was sweet
How are you all?June 13, 2007 at 6:11 pm #36644Anonymous
InactiveVent away Claire that is what we are here for. I am so sorry you have a pediatrician that does not listen to you. I hope you can find someone that respects you enough as a parent to listen etc. We struggled with this for years and thank GOD we found a pediatrician and family practice dr. that really listens to us and our concerns.
I feel so bad for you. I can so relate. We have good days here and bad days. We had a really bad day on Saturday and I could not figure out what was wrong, is it reflux? our routine is off? did I eat something I should not? growth spurt?

InactiveClaire,
This isn’t related to the UTI, but I wanted to tell you that I literally could have written your post about the diet/feeding issues when Caden was Kate’s age. As a matter of fact, I did write a post very similar to yours.
The only thing I can say is that for ME, TED did nothing to help Caden. I starved for 3 weeks and NO improvement! He always had mucous in his stools no matter what I ate. The weirdest part is when I went back to eating regular food again, he had the most normal, mustardy (no mucous) bm ever! So, I really don’t believe anything I’m eating is causing his mucous.
That’s not to say that your case is the same, BUT for some of us TED doesn’t solve any problems. Just FYI. Also, all 3 of my boys have had these types of bms and were all breastfed, so I do feel that something about the breastfeeding contributed to it, but I don’t know that it was my diet. I do have OALD, and I have to be conscious of it and work on it to keep it under control. I fixed that this time around, and Caden no longer seems to have any mucous in his bms.
Now, I eat whatever I want (ice cream, milk, beef, chicken, you name it), and Caden doesn’t seem to react any differently from day to day. He does have occasional fussy days, but I have never been able to attribute them to a specific food in my diet, so I’m thinking it’s something else causing it.
Time was the biggest help in our case. Caden had to get older and more mature before his bms got better. Also, his reflux subsided once he turned about 6 months old. He does have occasional days where I wonder if he is having some reflux, but it doesn’t seem to bother him like it did in the beginning.
I hope Kate feels better really soon – especially with her UTI. I know that must be SO uncomfortable. My mom used to get those a lot. I’m lucky to be one of those who doesn’t get them. And, I hope her meds work better for her than they did for Caden. Prevacid never did a thing for him, bless his heart, so he just suffered through it. Every time I thought he was improving on Prevacid, he would be just as fussy as ever the next day, so I really don’t think it ever helped him
I REALLY wanted to try Zegerid, but our ped was totally against it (uneducated about it), so we never got it. I think I would have felt better if I had given it a try just to see if it worked better than the Prevacid.Good luck!

InactiveI also tryed TED and didn’t see any difference. What actually worked best for us was me keeping a food journal. It was a bit easier in my case though because in keeping the journal I realized everytime I ate dairy or beef I got sick. I also saw that everytime I had it Justice’s poo was very slimy and he broke out in exzema. I think though TED can help in some cases. All in all I am so glad I did it. I ended up losing 5 or so pounds doing it. Nursing is great for weight lose too. Now that Justice is older and not nursing as much I am getting super skinny. I am skinner than I was before I had Luke and was dieting and exercising all the time. I love bfing. Now I’m afraid of stopping.

I don’t plan to stop anytime soon though. Okay, just went off on an tangent (sp).June 14, 2007 at 5:40 pm #36784Anonymous
InactiveOMG Claire,
Poor Kate. I hope she is feeling better. I can so relate to the agony of wondering which med would be best. We are trying Zegerid. I just cannot stand to see Landen sweat and throw himself forward in my lap anymore during the feedings after the solutabs. He’s been on them WAY too long to still behave that way. Also, I can no longer time around meals now that I work. If you can get Caracream (I was able to find it through my Pharm on their Flavorx list and I am keeping it on hand in case Zegerid isnt good for us) that might be an option too if you cannot get Zegerid.
Good luck sweetie!
