InactiveHi Mel.
Sorry to hear that the compound was a bust! Like I said, it didn’t work for Hailey either and trying to figure out whether it was the dose, or how it was being made was too much for me. I’ve never tried zegerid, and your doc is right in that it’s not approved for use in infants, but neither are any of the PPIs from what I understand. Marci-kids has done research on zegerid in infants, and since it’s only prilosec and bicarb, I’m sure it’s fine. Many people have had luck getting marci-kids to call their ped, but like I said, I’ve never used it myself so maybe others can help you out. We use caracream, so that may be an option for you as well. Other than that, there’s always the prevacid solutabs if you think that you can time them around meals.
Glad to hear that he’s at least sleeping well on his wedge.
Poor little guy!… I hope that he gets some relief on the higher dose of axid until you get things sorted out. Good luck.

InactiveOh ya… can you try some mylanta in between for flareups?

InactiveOh, I’m sorry the Prilosec didn’t work for him. I hope the Zantac helps him until you get get to the GI and hopefully get him on a PPI like Prevacid or Zegerid.
BTW, most drugs that are prescribed for infants are not acutally FDA approved for infants. The drug companies rarely do studies on infants so they cannot approve them, but PPI’s are prescribed for infants all the time.
Good luck and keep please keep us posted.

See that was what I thought…along with alot of the allergy meds & depression meds that they prescribe to kids, they aren’t TESTED on kids, but they are prescribed for them anyway. I kind of wondered if the Ped was just telling me that to “soothe” me or get me off the phone or whatever.
Oh well…he’s going to see the GI specialist anyway…hopefully they will listen. I’ve never had a bad experience yet with Children’s Mercy…and by that point my new computer should be here so I can print stuff off from Marci-Kids.

InactiveYeah, I think they say that (it’s not FDA approved for kids) because most parents accept that as definitive proof that their baby should not have it. Docs must know that very few drugs are actually tested on infants.

Good luck at Children’s Mercy. I hope it goes well and you get the help you need.
