InactiveThat is a tough one. If you thought she was ready to go and was being held back, then I would push the issue but on the other hand, if she is comfortable, then I would do as Kim and Ann Marie suggested and ride it out and see what happens. Chances are, an opening would come up before she is 3.5 (which I agree is way too old to be in the toddler room!).
I would just make sure you note Hailey’s development and progress to them and keep the topic open so they will keep her in mind if an opening does become available. I’d keep it polite though, I have often said things to the directors that I have regretted in the heat of the moment and it just makes it awkward later for everybody involved.
I would be upset about the big tuition difference though and the fact that they suggested looking into other centers.

I wish I had more to offer but it seems our center tends to move them before they are ready instead of the other way around!!

InactiveThanks, guys! Unfortunately, there is VERY little turnover at this daycare. It’s the most high demand day care in the area, and we actually had to put Hailey on the wait list when I was 3 months pregnant to get in! The fact that Sarah got in was a fluke. The kids enter in the infant room and then move up, otherwise you can’t get in at all, and it is EXTREMELY rare for a child to leave before they “graduate”. I appreciate the advice.

InactiveMy oldest was held back when he was 3 – he couldn’t move into the next classroom until he became potty trained. He was on a great path and then him being the oldest boy in the room – he started to regress. He was mentally ready to be in the next room, just fighting the potty training thing.
While I know this is not that similar to your case – I would fear that if my child was again held back – they won’t learn what a child should learn at an age appropriate level. What kind of guarantee can they give you that your child will not be “held” back educationally. I know it is only age 2 – but they learn SO much at this age. I would hate for a regression.
Sorry if this was too negative – I still harbor some anger towards the school that held back my son.
Let us know what you decide.

InactiveIf there is little turnover, then I probably would fight for that spot. Kaelyn has been really unhappy lately as the oldest in her class. Of course, that hasn’t inspired her to potty train, but that’s a completely different issue!

InactiveWhat a mess. Lori, if she did actually have to stay in the toddler room at 3 or 3.5, I would think that the teachers would fight to have her moved. I can only imagine that it would be difficult for them to have mostly toddlers in the room and then poor Hailey. Surely, they would see that she would need to move, that it would be detrimental to her to keep her there? Of course, that would require you just keeping her in the toddler room and crossing your fingers that something works out when it comes down to the time to move. Not what you want to do, I’m sure.

InactiveThere’s going to be quite a few kids who have b-days within 3-4 months of each other that will be in that room. In September 14 kids will move from the toddler room to the preschool room (everyone except Hailey and another girl) and then 14 kids will come from the infant room to the toddler room. B/c of the lack of movement, there are a lot of kids in the infant room right now that are almost 2 years old!

InactiveThat stinks, Lori but at least she won’t be totally alone in there. I wonder why they don’t have more transitional rooms? Seth has already been in 5 different rooms (infant, crawler, one yr. old, young 2s and now older 2s) although like I mentioned moving so often has its cons too. It just seems there is a big age difference in the rooms at Hailey’s center but hey they must be doing something right if space is that much of a problem
!BTW, love Hailey’s b-day pic! She is such a big girl now!

InactiveI just read my last reply, Tiffany, and realized that I got the numbers wrong- that’s why you don’t post fast on your lunch break! It is a very small centre- 3 rooms- about 40 kids in total, but it’s a great place and we’ve been lucky to get in there. I’ll have to get details about the numbers to help me make my decision. 14 kids can’t be moving from the infant room, b/c there are only 10 in there in total!.. so I don’t know where the rest are going to come from.
I LOVE Seth’s new pic BTW. He also looks like such a big boy now!… Funny (I don’t know if I’ve posted this already or just thought it) but I guess I expected him to have brown hair. For some reason I thought that you had dark hair. It’s so great to see what he actually looks like!

InactiveLori, I did respond somewhere that I am a brunette and so is DH. We have no idea where the blonde hair and blue eyes come from but people are always asking (DH tells them the mailman
)! We have a lot of blondes in the family so definitely some recessive genes in there somewhere!
If we ever get a decent family pic, I’ll be sure to post it out here. Keep us posted on the daycare situation….
