InactiveHi,
I know I should post in meds section, but it’s late and I am just settling down after a long day and both kids are down now. I FINALLY got Zegerid today! My appeal went through. I have 20mg packets here. I had emailed Dr. Phillips a couple weeks ago when I first thought I was getting it to ask about how to dose it. For Landen, we are doing 10mg 2x daily (AM and PM) this is b/c he is in daycare and they won’t give meds there.
I wasn’t clear during my email I guess to Dr. Phillips at first so his response on how to mix the packet was:
Add 6.5 mL tap water; this will make 10mL
2mg/mL
Give 5mL, but the dose is three times per dayWell, I cannot do 3x day, so do I mix 13mL tap water with the entire packet into a little tupperware thing and store it in the fridge, then dose 10mL in the AM and 10mL in the PM? Or am I totally calc this wrong? I am really bad with understanding dosages and mL. I am horrible at it actually, so pls correct me if I am misunderstood. Pls, if anyone knows how to mix 20mL packets and dose 10mg at a time I would greatly appreciate any advice. I do not have the proper syringes to use tomorrow, but plan to stop off at the Medicine Shoppe tomorrow on the way to work.
Sorry this is so long winded.

InactiveThat sounds correct to me! If you mix 13 ml water with one packet, you’ll make enough medicine for the whole day. Just give half in the morning and half in the evening. I hope you were able to get some syringes!!! They really make it a lot easier! We actually mix 3 packets at one time (with about 20ml of water) so we aren’t mixing medicine EVERY night. That’s what the large syringes are so great for! It stays stable in the fridge for 3 weeks and stable at room temp. for 24 hours.
Gotta get to bed…hope that helped!

InactiveJill:
I sent you a large syringe (35ml) along with the package I sent to you. When we used the 20mg packets, we mixed 3 packets with 20ml of water in the big syringe which makes 30ml of the meds. If you do one packet at a time, it needs to be with only 6.5ml of water. Did your doctor want you to give 10 mg in the am and pm or 10 ml? There is a difference as when it is mixed, it is 2mg/ml so if you gave 10ml, you would actually be giving 20mg – hope that makes sense. Whenever I had questions, I always emailed Dr. Phillips to help clear up confusion. Hope the Zegerid works great for you guys!!

InactiveThanks for the replies! I saw them that night but my PC was slooow and I could not reply, it ended up crapping out on me! Ugh! I am just now back in use.
Robin, thanks so very much. I cannot wait to get the syringe! I have been searching everywhere for them. I tried the Medicine Shoppe, Modern Medical and every other Pharm in town and nobody has them.I’ve been mixing the 20mg packet with 6.5mL tap water and it makes 10mL Zegerid. I seperate it into 2 5mL doses and add 1mL Mylanta Cherry supreme (this is ONLY for taste for Landen-nothing more) and he takes it like a champ! So far so good, and I live not timing around meals!Robin- right now I am shaking it in a tight fitting container
– so I am suuuper excited about that syringe!!!!
You are a lifesaver!jilly782007-06-30 17:57:05
