InactiveI’m not sure this is even the right forum anymore. My daughter was born with a CHD and has severe reflux which was mostly silient. During her last hosptial stay they did an upper GI and a ph probe. The upper GI showed reflux…the ph probe did not (at least acidity) She is vomiting about 1-3x a day and is definately NOT happy about it!!! Scares her and possibly hurts/burns…can’t tell ..she is only 7 months old and just cries and cries!! She has had a g-tube put in along with her heart and intestine surgeries. She is on 15 mg twice a day of zantac. Has anyone else had vomiting problems with a CHD??? IS THIS REFLUX or sound like something else?? Is 15mg even close to proper dose?? (she only weighs 12lbs) I’m begining to wonder if a different med might not be better….unfortunately, she cant use prevacid b/c she is continously fed.
Thank you for any input!

InactiveHi Desiree, if one of the tests showed reflux I’m betting that it is. The other signs also sound like reflux.
I’m just wondering if she can do zegerid or compounded prevacid (I know that lots of mums have had trouble with it, but if its compounded correctly it may be an option). Bubs can have up to 10mg per kilo of zantac so I’m guessing the 30mg she is getting is a fairly conservative dose.June 30, 2007 at 9:19 am #38315Anonymous
InactiveHi Desiree,
I agree with Therese that it does sound like reflux and I think it would be worth trying a PPI like Zegerid or compounded Prevacid. Bryce has a g-tube as well and the compounded prevacid has worked great for him. Bryce was born with a CHD as well, but I don’t think it’s what caused his vomiting. His heart defect is part of a genetic syndrome in which reflux and digestion problems are common though. Bryce vomits a lot too, and he was diagnosed with DGE (delayed gastric emptying). Has Hope been tested for this? Bryce’s DGE was treated with Erythromycin, and it made a HUGE difference! His vomiting reduced dramatically. It might be worth having her tested if she hasn’t been. Good luck. I hope that you can figure out something so little Hope can finally get some relief.June 30, 2007 at 9:38 am #38316Anonymous
InactiveThey tried Erthomycian for about a week in the hospital and it seemed to do nothing for her …Prevacid isn’t an option because she is on continous feeds…not sure but think that the same problem with Zegrid (sorry misspelled). I think I might up her dose of zantac and hope I see a difference maybe.
Thank you for your thoughts!June 30, 2007 at 10:16 am #38317Anonymous
InactiveCompounded Prevacid is the one you CAN use with continuous feeds. It’s solutabs or the other forms that you can’t. You can use Zegerid with continuous feeds as well. Neither of them have to be timed with meals and can be given with food. As for the Erythromycin, it took at least a week before it even started working for Bryce, so that might be why you didn’t see a difference. You’d probably need to try it for a couple of weeks. Anyway, good luck. Hope you figure something out.
