InactiveSo Cooper has a horrible diaper rash that I can’t seem to get to go away. He has very sensitive skin just like his mommy so he is prone to these anyway. He always has a bm after every feed (at least 5/day), but now that he is teething he is having 2 per feeding. I usually change him right after a feeding and then I am changing him again within the 1/2 hour for another bm. I have been using boudrauxs and A&D mixed together and then I started using Triple paste on Friday and it isn’t really getting any better. I called the ped office today instead of having me come in for them to look at it, the doc (not ours she is on vacation) called me and said he would call in a med for us and if this doesn’t clear it up then we have to come in. Does anyone have any other suggestions? We are bathing nightly to soak him and I am prolonging diaper changes to “air” him out as much as possible. I just dont know what to do, he is screaming now when we change diapers, I am also using warm water and a washcloth instead of wipes right now. TIA.

InactiveMaybe this would work for him. I use it when Myles has a particularily bad rash and it does seem to work. http://www.pinxav.com The prescription your doc has for him might be better though and probably covered by insurance. Is there some reason that you don’t want to try it?
Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I hope it clears up soon. Myles has had a few of these nasty rashes when he’s teething, has a stomach bug, or has been on antibiotics. His doc tells me to put TONS of desitin on at every change, so I load it (or pinxav) on to make a nice thick barrier and that usually does help clear it up.July 2, 2007 at 9:46 am #38395Anonymous
InactiveIt’s not that I don’t want to use what the doc is calling in for us. I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can to help prevent this in the future. Seeing him in pain is killing me.

InactiveOh Beth! No fun!! I don’t have any other advice for you. It sounds like you’re doing everything you can right now. I hope it clears up soon! I love Cooper’s new picture by the way! I think he looks like you!

InactiveAt one point the only thing that helped Kaelyn was mixing mylanta in with A and D, then covering it with triple paste.
Have you tried any new foods lately? Kaelyn’s worst rashes have always been related to food intolerances.July 2, 2007 at 7:05 pm #38445Anonymous
Inactiveunfortunately we aren’t on anything other than formula so I am thinking his rash is 2nd to his teething issue. Otherwise I can’t figure it out. I got the stuff from the doc today Nystatin and something else. But of course DH didn’t tell me that on rashes like Coop’s they use Lotrimin in the hospital, so I may use that if this doesn’t help. Wish us luck, his poor little bottom hurts me to look at.

InactiveDagney had a bad diaper rash, and our pedi said not to use the triple paste. She had said once they have the rash the triple paste actually irritates it more because it “sticks” on so much. she had us just use aquaphor, which worked for us, but Cooper may need something more at this point. I also tried to let her “air” out as much as possible, but then she’d end up peeing and/or pooping on the floor! (She’d of course roll off of the waterproof pad that I had put under her to catch anything!) Good luck!

InactiveI think that nystatin means that he is worried about a yeast infection. If that’s the case, then you definitely don’t want a barrier type cream (triple paste, anything really thick) for the reasons that Denise mentioned.

InactiveI wonder about probiotics. I have had great success with them, in both helping Alana’s frequent bowel movements, gassiness and any bottom rashes. Its more of a preventative thing I suppse, but maybve it would change the “flora” of the “poo” and cause it to react less with the skin. Only a hypothesis though.

InactiveI think the probiotics wold be a good idea also.
I use Bag Balm on Carson’s bottom and it works GREAT!! My neighbor gave it to us as a gift when Carson was born and we continue to use it. It has a sticker/price tag that says Campbell Supply, which is a *manly store* – not sure what a comparable store would be. I swear by it.July 5, 2007 at 9:12 am #38603Anonymous
InactiveWell his rash looked so much better yesterday and now it doesn’t look so hot. We did go the pool yesterday and take him “swimming”. He was in the pool with dh for probably about 20 minutes and then about 30minutes after that I took him out of his swim diaper and by the time we got home his bottom was on fire. We put him in the tub to bathe him and he screamed the whole time, (he never does that, loves his baths). I am assuming that it was the cholrine and chemicals in the pool that did us in. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do with bottoms and going to the pool? We want to take him as much as possible to get him used to the water, but I hate it when his bottom looks like a big tomato.

InactiveSince you want to protect him from the chlorine, I’d put a thick, thick layer of triple paste everywhere that seems irritated. It should help coat it. It’s a pain, but as soon as he’s out of the water, you should probably take the swim diaper off and put a dry diaper on.
