InactiveWe started Cooper on solids on Monday. He has had 5days of squash so far. He has been taking alittle more than a tablespoon and seems to love it. He talks to me when I don’t get it to him fast enough. But what I have noticed is that at around 11:30pm everynight for the last 3 or 4 is that he wakes up with horrible farts… I mean they sound like an adult. He takes the squash around 5:30 so it has been 6hrs by the time the gas hits. Is this from the solids and that he is taking in more air by being spoonfed? We put gas drops in his bottles but I have been having to give him more at night to help him sleep. His sleep is all messed up now as well. Any thoughts suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

InactiveI have no thoughts Beth b/c I have zilch(sp?)experience with solids so far but I hope Cooper gets his poppin’ in his seat under control and he sleeps better sooner rather then later!!!
For you both!!! Thanks by the way for your great advice!!!July 22, 2007 at 4:55 am #39693Anonymous
InactiveAlana seems to have these “farting fits” where she squeals and wakes occasionally. I’m pretty sure that it is an intolerance thing for her…the culprits are hidden dairy (of course we stopped that) and tomato’s.
The other thing I find that helps with gas is probitics, not sure if Cooper is on any?evergreenie2007-07-22 04:57:05

InactiveYes, certain foods can cause gas (just like broccoli does it for me!
). I was told on here once that gas is a sign of intolerance but I’m not sure that that is ALWAYS true. I’m not intolerant to broccoli, ya know? Sarah became really gassy when we first started our milk trial, but that has subsided now. So maybe after his body adjusts to the squash, he’ll be fine! Other than his sleep being a little messed up and gas, have you noticed anything else going on with him? Fussiness? Weird diapers? Rashes?July 22, 2007 at 10:00 pm #39725Anonymous
InactiveI think in some cases, gas can just be a side effect of the body getting used to a new food. I know Ben was gassy when we first tried solids too, and it passed after a bit. However, it really seems to be bothering him, you might want to to stop for a bit and try in a couple weeks.

InactiveOhh, Cooper is on Probiotics (Just read the other post). Where these farting fits around the time you were having the trouble with the traces of soy one??

InactiveIt was trace milk, but close enough. The gas was around when we were doing that. We started the probiotic last Saturday and stopped on Weds b/c whatever bottle I gave it in he spit more than usual. We started solids on Monday (squash). We tried carrots just this Saturday, he isn’t really fond of them, we will try green beans in a few days. I am taking him to the doctor today if I can get in b/c I think he may have the dreaded first ear infection. He has been pulling his left ear more than usual and very fussy for naps and not sleeping well at night… Wish us luck.

InactiveCaden sometimes gets gassy, but it’s usually if he hasn’t had a bm in a day or so. He tends to go every other day now that he’s on solids. I also remember that when I first started solids at around 6 months he didn’t react well to everything. Now that he’s 9 months old (almost) he seems to be able to eat most things without any issues. Of course I haven’t given him dairy or citrus or any of the trigger foods yet, but he’s eating quite a variety now and doing fine. It may just take some time for Cooper to get used to solids.
