InactiveI am so scared. I went stright to these boards for relief 🙁 I haven’t been on for about 3 weeks because things were getting much better, He has had his waves of reflux when it gets bad and then for the most part, I find it subsiding.
THEN : This morning he is laying in bed kicking vigorously and grunting. I was wondering why he had the sudden burst of energy. I am not exaggerating when I say he vomitted EASILY two full cups of vomit. It shot out with the DIAMETER OF A WATER BOTTLE — AND A FOOT UP IN THE AIR — he was laying on his back. I have never seen anything like this. Nothing has changed lately. Same medicine, same diet. Same everything. It covered his whole face, eyes, went in his nose, and soaked his whole head.
I started crying hysterically. I don’t know what to do? Has this ever happened to anyone else? I mean I have had him projectile vomit, but NEVER CLOSE to this.
Everyone always says “Oh it always looks like more than it really is”
Not this time. It really was a lot.
He does have DGE ……….

InactiveHmmm…. Not to diminish your fears, but my son puked like that continually. Maybe not a foot in the air, but he frequently puked over my shoulder and splattered the wall behind me. frequently he threw up what seemed like entire feedings. So, I wouldn’t panic just yet. My guess is that he’s either having a reflux flare, or he may be coming down with a stomach virus. When my kids have stomach viruses the puke can be very foreceful. It’s scary to see, I know. If it’s a stomach bug he probably will be irritable and his appetite will likely be diminished.
I hope things settle down soon. Keep us posted.

InactiveMy son did this until he was well past 1 year. Now he only does it when he has an ear infection or is getting sick. It is the scariest thing I have ever seen in my life. Especially when it is like a faucet turning on.
I hope it gets better for you soon.July 28, 2007 at 9:08 pm #40047Anonymous
InactiveMy kids don’t always get a fever with a stomach virus. Sometimes they get a fever the first day. I guess the only way to tell (other than a stool culture at the doctor’s office) is to watch and wait. If it passes in a few days that’s probably what it was. Some signs would be a foul odor (to the stool or throw up), poor appetite, lethargy.
How is he doing now?July 30, 2007 at 3:55 am #40115Anonymous
InactiveIt passed thank you. he’s fine. I didn’t give him his medicine the last few days because there hasn’t been a “RIGHT” time and he didn’t throw up once? Now it makes me wonder if the medicine worked at all ever or if I just thought it did and it happened to be coincidence?

InactiveThere was one stage where I stopped Alana’s Zantac (early on when she wasn’t on prevacid). She was fine for a few days then the reflux pain kciked back in. Hopefully that won’t be the case for Van, but I would keep an eye on it…just because it might take time for the irritation to flair and the pain cycle to begin.
