InactiveWe were so excited that Ariella was feeling so much better on Prevacid. We felt that 22.5 mgs were unnecessary so we cut it down to 15 mgs a day. She did well on that. We decided to cut it down even further to 7.5 mgs a day and I’m afraid I’m seeing the signs of reflux again. I’m so upset that we’ll have to hold off the weaning process for a bit longer. I feel that she’ll never get off Prevacid and that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. I’m very upset with this whole thing

Maybe it’s better to give her the 7.5 mgs in the am rather than pm? Or should I just continue with 15 mgs? If so, when should I attempt to wean again?August 6, 2007 at 1:16 pm #40569Anonymous
InactiveI don’t really have much advice about weaning…. just lots of symptahy!
Hailey’s over 2 years old and there’s no light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to weaning for us either. I can’t remember how old Marianna is, but I think she’s around 10 months if I remember correctly. I know we all want to wean, but she’s not even a year yet, so I personally wouldn’t rush if you think that she still has reflux. The fact that you can decrease the dose is a good sign, and I’m sure she’ll outgrow it soon.August 6, 2007 at 1:48 pm #40572Anonymous
InactiveI agree with Lori. The fact that she did well on a lower dose is a good sign even if you can’t wean her completely yet. I’d probably put her back on 15 mgs a day and stick with that until she’s a year before trying to wean any further.
I’m sorry that your are feeling glum about it. I know I’d feel the same way, but try to keep it in perspective. She’s still very young and there’s a good chance that you will be able to wean her in a few months.
Hugs to you and Ariella.

InactiveLori-yes, Ariella’s 10 months old.
Christine, thank you. I guess I feel the pressure to wean her b/c I constantly hear inlaws buzzing in my ear “it’s time, enough with the meds”. Ugh, no matter what I tell them, they feel the need to put their 2 cents in.August 6, 2007 at 3:41 pm #40583Anonymous
InactiveTry to ignore them. You’re her mommy and you’re the one that has to live to live with her. You know what’s best for her… and it’s not esophagitis! Hopefully you’ll be able to wean her right off in a couple of months.

InactiveMarianna–
If I remember correctly, Ariella is just a couple of weeks older than Owen- he’s 10 mo today. I would never even DREAM of trying to wean him yet. He is also MSPI and we just finally started to live a normal life! You are going to just ignore the comments! Hard as it is, I know, I get plenty of them myself! You have plenty going on in your life, relax, enjoy! Don’t sweat the small stuff! If she’s happy on 15mg try that at least until she’s a year!
My doc said no way to weaning anything until 15 months……

InactiveBIG HUGS!!! The reflux rollercoaster is a horrible ride and we’re ALL ready to get off! I agree that it’s a GREAT sign that she did fine on a lower dose even if she’s not completely ready yet. We tried to wean Sarah at 9 months and it failed miserably. We have been S-L-O-W-L-Y weaning Sarah all summer now and I’m hoping she’s finally ready. I know pressure from family can make things a LOT worse but wouldn’t you rather have a HAPPY baby than a miserable baby?
Also, how long has it been since the latest lower wean. It COULD be rebound reflux that can be controlled with a little bit of Tums (I dissolve a 1/2 smooth dissolve tablet in a little water). Dr. Phillips said that rebound can last a week and if the Tums don’t stabilize her then she’s not ready and needs to go back on meds. Have you tried any OTC reflux meds. to see if they help?
GOOD LUCK!!!

InactiveI wouldn’t even worry one bit about it. The fact that you were albe to go down in dosage to 15 mgs is a huge positive sign. You know we did the same thing with Brianna around 10 months and had the same problems, but we tried again shortly after her 1st birthday and were able to take her off prevacid all together…so don’t be glum. Things are progressing in the right direction! Hugs!!!

InactiveI started weaning Adriana and she has been on 15 mgs for almost 3 weeks now. I am too scared to go down anymore because I don’t want to be dissapointed. She did start to take in less formula and more solids but she hasn’t seemed in any pain. She also started Iflora probiotics a week ago too, they seem to help her poo . Maybe you should just keep her on the 15mgs. Its nice to hear that it is a good sign that she an tolerate the decrease to 15. Good luck and keep in touch. Our kids are mimicking each other:)

InactiveThanks everyone. I feel so much better now knowing that I”m not alone who’s experiencing this.
Jenny-Adriana’s hair is soo long. Ariella has very short hair and it seems to be growing very slow. OH, here we go…I found another thing to worry about
