InactiveI haven’t posted any questions/concerns lately, b/c knock on wood things have been pretty smooth here for the last week or so. But we are getting ready to take a trip in a week to visit my parents. They are both about 6 hrs away and once we go to my dad’s we are only about 100miles from my mom so we are going to visit both in the same week, planning on 3 nights at each place. My biggest concern is sleeping. Cooper has finally started sleeping decently again since the first 2 teeth and his ear infection and now I know I am going to mess it up by going away from home. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the sleeping during the trip as restful/good as possible? I know it will be thrown off and that things will not be back to normal when we get home for probably a week but I just want to make this as smooth a transition as possible. Any suggestions/advice would be great. TIA.

InactiveFamiliar objects and routine help alot. When I travled to NY with Liza I asked my sister to get a crib (she borrowed one) and she got lucky and found white bumpers which is what Liza had in her crib. I brought Liza’s blankets and the few bedtime books she was most used to and when I got there I tried to keep her on the same routine as much as possible. Bath, stories, bottle, bed. No matter what you do there will probably be some disruption to his routine and things may not go as smoothly as they do at home, but he will adapt again once you get back home.
Have fun! I wish I could take my crew to see my family but it’s just too far and too expensive. We are going to see dh’s grandma in October. That will be interesting with three children.

InactiveBoth girls have favorite blankets, so we always bring those. We just use the pack and play and try to keep our schedule as close to normal as possible. Honestly, they’ve always done well with sleeping when we’ve traveled. The only issue that I had when I spent almost three weeks at my dad’s this summer is that the girls were sharing a room, so as soon as one of them woke up, they were both up!

InactiveBeth,
First off, have a great time!!!
Kate just started taking consistent naps in her crib(thank goodness!!! the swing is gone,it’s the end of an era)and has a consistent bedtime which is sooooooooooo great. We have a routine for both(books,me singing out of tune
)so I would say the same as everyone else. If you have one, stick with that. I’m a huge creature of habit and LOVE routines(then I know what to expect for the most part too!!
)so Kate has the same books at bed and the same ones for nap. We’re going to Washington to see my family for Christmas and already I’m TERRIFIED!!! Looooooong plane ride with a nine month old!! Anyway, try and have fun and not worry too much. Easier said then done, I know. I’m glad Cooper’s been doing so well lately!Big sigh of relief!August 11, 2007 at 9:17 pm #40903Anonymous
InactiveBeth, we are currently visiting family ourselves and have been this whole past week. And while everything has certainly been out of the ordinary, Ben’s done fairly well with the whole sleeping thing. I have just tried to keep everything as close to our routine at home as possible. Darkened room, noise machine, bath, books, boob, sleep! He’s not had a bad night yet. A few early mornings, but I’m chalking that up to that blasted tooth finally breaking through.
His naps have been another story, but he’s always struggled there, so I can’t really say if it was the traveling or not.Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful trip and are able to enjoy yourself! -
