I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with bloody/ mucous in their babies poo? Camryn was diagnosed with an ear infection on Thursday. She started Omnicef 4 ml daily x 10 days. I know Omnicef turns their poop red, but this was mucous & blood. She seems a little uncomfortable, but not uncosolable.

I haven’t changed her diet at all. She takes Prilosec 3ml in AM & Night time, and 2ml in the afternoon. She takes Erythromycin 0.5cc 4 x daily.

I am wondering if it isn’t the two antibiotics ( Erythromycin & Omnicef) together causing it.

Any ideas?

Not sure, but has she been having more frequent bms since the addition of the omnicef? She may have a fissure which would be the reason for the blood. The mucous I am not sure about. Sorry I am not of much help.

No, she wasn’t straining to have her BM’s. Her’s are always soft, and haven’t increased or decreased in amount or times per day. I just hope she doesn’t have anymore like it.

Is she BF or FF? I am going to play devil’s advocate and ignore the fact that she is on AB’s and say it could be her regular diet? Could she have MSPI? (milk/soy protein intolerance?) That causes blood and mucousy stools. Sorry if I missed something and this has already been addressed.

My son had this problem even when he was on Alimentum b/c unfortunately, even though it is finely broken down, it still has milk protein in it and after 6 weeks on it, the proteins built up in his system and his stools got bloody and mucousy again and we had to put him on neocate.

She is formula fed, Nutramigen. Her diet has been the same for a couple of months. We have only had the one episode, but back to the doctor we go to check it out.

Thank you for your ideas though.

Good news, Problem solved. It was antibiotic colitis causing all of the problems. She is all better since stopping the Omnicef.
